The Internet Is Scaring Me!! I'm being stalked! How do they do that? Ive never ordered anything from overstock.com but I have been browsing recently. I find that everytime I open my yahoo email- the overstock.com adverstisement is exactly what I browsed. So I went there again and looked at something different- now both things I browsed show up as an advertisement.
How do they do that? How can I stop it? LOVE HARD.

First, you have reformat your system drive and re-install your OS.

Wait. Let's start at the beginning.
First, is your computer plugged in, and turned on?

COOKIEEEEESnomnomnomnom
And other small tracking programs installed while browsing. They send information out about what you're looking at online. That information is then used to send targeted advertising back to you. As far as having your email address goes, Overstock probably got it through a coalition of online stores who pool such information.

I went to a live show in New York last week. The day after I went, I got an e-mail from them, asking if I enjoyed the show. I thought "wow, that's great customer service!" until I realized I never gave them my email address. Then it just became creepy!

I wouldnt be surprised if people will have the ability to turn on YOUR webcam at will. This world is so self-satisfying it angers me because it's at MY detriment. LOVE HARD.

1st, it's the cookies...
2nd, some of it is just shotgun marketing like the case of the "did you enjoy the show?". A cookie may have reported you researched that show and sent out a blanket message to everyine...
3rd, pay NO ATTENTION to TheVoid!!! It IS the internet, it gives horrible advice (sometimes) and is the sole source of the Batdick joke. Also, its grammar is atrocious and therefore it is a flawed construct. A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon |

Nobody is stalking you! As an internet veteran who has had more than 7,000 hours of total internet logtime, this is called "internet cookies", when you browse websites, most install miniscule programs into your internet browser which save or log data about you. Overstock is partnered with Google Adsense, an advertising program which many internet website ownesr use to try to make money off advertising clicks which benefit the company, and whenever you browse an Overstock.com website, they log a cookie about this and display it in the advertisement box. Several other sites employ this as well, such as Zazzle.com. Hope this helps. This is simply an advertising campaign and nobody is stalking you or even watching what your looking at.

I've purchased items from overstock several times. They are good at targeting their customers. For example I brought queen sized sheets and then began receiving email on queen sized bedding sales. I never had a problem with the site. No More Haters on the Internet.
