Serena Williams now holds all four tennis grandslams...

"The French Open, U.S. Open, Wimbledon and now the Australian Open -- Serena has won them all. On Saturday night, she faced her sister Venus in their fourth straight major and again came away the winner. In an error-filled match that went a full three sets, Serena proved to have more composure and became just the ninth woman all-time to have won each of the four Grand Slam singles titles."

Nobody else even reported this? I'm not the biggest tennis follower but even Prince props the Williams sisters on his website.

The Australian Open win (Over sister Venus who made all of the four grandslam finals Serena's won) puts Serena amongst the greatest of all times. Arguably the best. Made history.

Remember when her father said it would be just those two in
the finals and everybody laughed. Now it's common to see them battle it out for No#1 and No#2. That girl is a plesure to watch play tennis. I don't see her losing her game for awhile.

Congrats to Serena! It's sad watching the sisters play each other though...it's a heartbreak because neither wants the other to lose, at the same time both want to win...i like watching them play doubles because they whoop everyone, and win together biggrin

does anyone know if Andre Agassi won?

if She keeps this Up She might be tied with Tiger Woods as the most Important Athlete of this Century? She is Scary badd&Super Fine.the WIlliams Sisters rule tennis&are chagning the rules.Althea Gibson would be Proud as is Zina Garrison with there Historic Accoplishments every time they win&define the Hate&resentment they have had too deal with.Serna knows what time it is.Loved Her interview in Savoy magazine a few months back.Venus is Badd as well.

Her father also said it was Serena who would end up being the better tennis player when Venus was dominating. Although I personally wouldn't have said that publicly, or let my kids know I felt that way, what he's said has come to fruition.

I love me some Williams sisters...the girls are bad as hell. ( And fine too) Serena predicted that she won't lose a game this year, that is a scary prediction. It's amazing that 2 women can be on top of a sport like that. Serena Williams is simply history in the making. You go girls!!!

Ialways notcied&thought that Venus had a Fundemental Game&that Serena had a Power Game but over time that if Serena devoloped a All-Around Game too balance Her Power&add Venus Control too it She would be Unstoppable&I'll be Damned if She didn't catch on quicker than I thought?

Agassi won the mens. Navaratalova added another grandlsam in winning the mixed doubles. I wonder if Martina at her peak would prove the only female tennis player who could regularly challenge Serena?

It might be too early to tell. I don't think Serena has reached her peak yet. What is she, 22?

Early 20s yeah, yet for sheer power alone I don't feel the past lady greats could hang, Steffi Graf got out at just right time. Navratalova seems only name that could present regular challenge. Hell, Venus may even be second best of all time? smile

You present the idea of judging Serena course of her career but I think both sisters will retire (To become actresses whatever) within a few years as they're so dominant it'll get boring.

Not exactly. My comparison is that I don't think she's as good as she may possibly get. And since you brought up Navratilova "at her peak" it's hard to judge a hypothetical matchup without Serena having more longevity so far. Regardless, it's always hard to compare different eras of athletes since they can't play one another during their primes. But it's fun to think about.

Btw, I don't think dominance is ever boring. It's better than parity. biggrin

Yeah it's a ridiculous comparison comparing in any sport/field, right down to the different rackets and even rules of the game. Just making sure Serena gets her dues. The tennis establishment just playing the Williams sisters off as some freak occurance that will one day disappear with little credit attached. Just a "Power above skill" cop out.

That's some achievement for Martina, even if it is only doubles.

Sure was, like I said to Supernova I don't see Serena doing the veteran thing. Achieve all she can achieve in coming years then how long before grandslam after grandslam to the criticism of the tennis world gets dull and she pursues her fashion or acting interests. I believe she even raised these ideas herself, same for Venus. Although if Serena quit, Venus might stick around a little longer to dominate herself for a minute. biggrin
