These 2 things never used to seem possible to me - alien invasion, or a Skynet deal where computers become sentient and decide to rub us out. Or some variation on those themes.

Lately it's occurred to me - why couldn't these things happen?

I'm afraid of zombies.

At least once a week or so I look around and play out the scenario in my head of what to do if there were a zombie attack.

It's not quite the same, I suppose, but they're slightly related.

you'll need a good shotgun and maybe a chainsaw or a sword as backup...

Agreed!

I am a firm believe that there is "alien" life in our universe. But I'm also pretty sure that's it's not something we could conceive at this time, or that we would understand if it suddenly showed up on our doorstep. In our minds aliens have to comply to OUR rules of physics, biology, time, space, etc. Chances are good that they won't.

However, not afraid! If the dropped down in front of me in a way I could understand this afternoon I would straight BEG them to take me with them (if they're planning on leaving and not taking over the Earth, of course ).

A Skynet type thing. Mmm. Nah, not really. It is very likely that computers will achieve some sort of self-sustaining artificial intelligence. In the near future, actually, as we've already created robots that learn and adapt to their environments without having any code added to their programming. However, if there's ever a problem we'll just turn them off. They've got to have power. And they'd have to take over major power grids, which the don't have access to, in order to stop us from just flicking the switch. So no, no computer takeover anytime soon.

Oh. And zombies. Just walk quickly. Those suckers are slow.

Can anybody name an actor other than Will Smith that has saved the world from robots, aliens, AND zombies?

(and spare me the "they weren't really zombies" bit...those were some of those damn new-age super-powered zombies that are all the rage lately)
