I've had the same old IKEA bed for at least 12 or so years now, and it still feels fine so low prices don't always mean poor quality. I think the main problem with buying an expensive bed though is that if your life changes, you may feel that your bed is the wrong size (too big if you're moving to a smaller bedroom or too small if you meet someone that you want to share the bed with, and who takes up a lot of space when they sleep for example) and then it's expensive to replace it.

With that said, I do understand those who choose to invest in something pricey. After all, you use it for eight hours every night so you get a lot of, erm, bang for your buck no matter how it turns out.

I couldn't find a bed to suit me at IKEA sad

I went to a place called Captain Snooze and got a solid pine slatted base bedframe and a fancy pillow top mattress with a 30 year guarantee or something crazy nuts

but I knew I wouldn't be moving any time soon, the time was right to make a long term decision nod

And the bed is just the start!

I'm thinking of going for a king this time. (I've had a queen bed forever, but the best sleep Sweetie and I get is when we're at a hotel someplace - sleeping in a king bed.) But that means that, in addition to the bigger, more expensive bed, I'm going to have to replace the mattress pad, blankets, sheets, comforter, bedcover, bedskirt and gawd knows what else.

The bed'll run at least $1500, plus (probably) another grand for the rest. disbelief

We got a new bed over the weekend. biggrin

Since we're gonna start looking for a new place it doesn't pay to get new drapery (I want luxe fabrics with sheens to them, maybe some tone on tone damasks even) or paint here but my goal is to put together a room that's glamorous yet masculine with some Deco touches. I wanted an upholstered headboard but didn't want a bed that was completely covered in fabric. Found this one which I think remains faily flexible, should we want to switch up the look down the road.

The wall colors will be these (or close to these) when we move:

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/bed2.jpg[/img:$uid]

I haven't decided if I will paint the dresser (originally I wanted to paint it white and give it clear/lucite/glass hardware) hmmm

The prints will probably be on a different wall of the room in our next place and a vintage (was my mom's) mirror (as wide as the dresser) above it. It's in our dining room right now.
