Congrats, Carrie!
And who's "we"? Are you shackin' up with some dude, now?
I've been with the same 'dude' for over a year. Not shacked up with him yet. I found the dog and heavily persuaded said 'dude' to adopt seeing I cannot have any dogs at my apartment and he has a house.
Oh, okay. I like to be up on my CarrieLee news.
I love dogs. Enjoy! |

He is a cute little thing. He looks a lot like the rat terrier my mother had named "Peppie". Just wait till he sees some squirrels though, he'll drive you up the wall. If Peppie so much as saw one through the window, he would bark his brains out and if we put him outside, he would chase them up the tree and bark stand at the bottom of the tree barking as loud as he could until you forced his little ass to go back inside the house. Otherwise, he'd bark for hours and disturb the neighbors. Andy is a four letter word. |

Are rat terriers as aggressive and wired as Jack Russells? |

He's pretty mute right now but I know that's going to change in time. The way the house is set up he's not going to really be able to see out to the back yard so he should be fine inside. But when he's out I know he'll go nuts when he sees other animals. He is so funny when the birds fly around him!
And Rat Terriers can be pretty wired, but he also has greyhound in him so it chills him out a little bit. We're still getting to know him and right not the main concern is potty training. It's hard work!!! But he's worth it! |

He was very protective of my mother from day one. The day she brought him home, he growled and snapped at everyone except her. If she wasn't around, he was fine with other people but the minute she came in, he immediately would go over to her and dare you to come near her or himself. She used to pick my nephews up and would have him in the car with her. As soon as she pulled into their driveway, she had to get the dog and hold him in her lap because he wasn't go to let them in the car if she didn't. When she became bedridden, he would lay by her feet in the bed and I had to chase him out of the room with a broom handle in order to help her get in and out of bed because he would fight if you came near her, especially while she was sick and helpless.
I definately recommend them for an older person that lives alone. If anyone breaks in, they will have to fight that dog to the bitter end before they could harm it's owner.

Sounds like he had some major behavior issues!!! It's like Fort Knox at my man's house right now. We are trying to train Olly the right way. It's hard, especially when you have to put him in the crate and he gives you the eyes! Oh god the eyes |

He was already a year old when my mother got him. The shelter said his previous owner was an older lady who lived alone and when her health got bad, she had to give him up. The funny thing is, when my mother died, my sister took the dog in. She already had a female rat terrier of her own named Taco and the very first day Peppie got to her house, he jumped inbetween my sister and Taco and wouldn't let Taco come near her. It was if he was saying..."Bitch, I'm running things now!" Andy is a four letter word. |

Ha!
Olly is about a year and a half old. You have to let them know who's boss right from the get go or they will walk all over you. I can see how people mess up not knowing, there's a lot to training a dog. Hopefully we do it right so everyone is happy! |

Once he gets used to you, hold a piece of food that he likes up in the air and see if he will stand on his hind legs to get it. Peppie could not only stand on his hind legs but could actually walk on them for a little while as you moved the food in your hand. I know every dog can take a few steps but he could take lots of steps. Someone told me that rat terriers used to be those little dogs that would walk on their hind legs in the circus.
