My list of stinkers...

The English Patient

The Passion Of The Christ

Miami Vice

Sling Blade

She's Gotta Have It

haven't even seen it yet but I totally believe that's the stinker of the decade... Jesus Christ - The Snuff Film... rolleyes

I think Mark Morford said it best right here ---> HERE

that said I too agree with Cerebus (great name btw!). Titanic was not that bad and if you extract that sappy love story and look at it just on it's technical prowess then it's actually magnificent. Man, I'd done 3+ reports on the whole Titanic saga & sinking in school and when they fired up the engines that first time in the movie and that ship started to sail I caught a mean case of goosebumps, I probably even shed a little tear...

Same thing with Avatar... visually magnificent but still just Dances w/ Wolves in Bleu... still a great ride though!

now... back on topic... THE worst movie I've EVER seen was without question HIGHLANDER 2!!! I mean c'mon, the first one was stunning. Great story, good effects, decent acting and to go from that to #2 which was just an insult to film-making was too much for me to bear.

What am I talking about?? Ebert said it best here ---> HERE

and there it is folks...

Needful Things

Those are the ones that came to mind.

highfive

Here's my thing with Titanic: there are so many great, true stories linked to the sinking of the Titanic. Why super-impose some silly, sophomoric, mall-rat love story on top of it?

I am not someone who gives a rusty about special effects. I want a story - and it had better be a good one. That is what a movie is supposed to be.

That said, there is a version of Titanic I like...

Amen!

Cerebus said: do you think I appreciate being branded with judgmental remarks such as "trying WAY to hard to be the cool contradictory guy", talk about double standards.

Get over yourself you egomaniacal, self-centered, asstard. People make statements like that online all the time. It's called an opinion - which you clearly know something about. It wasn't directed AT YOU, or at anyone else specifically. It wasn't within the body of a quote. Right? It states "anybody" because that's MY OPINION about people who make nonsensical hyperbolic statements regarding Titanic and/or Avatar being "the worst movie ever". If you needed clarification or wished to further discuss it all you had to do was ask, or say so. It's what's commonly knows as manners. And you should really work on yours.

Listen pea brain, ..

You said that you want people to treat you with manners and learn how to behave on the internet bla bla chatterbox yet you are happy to give out insults. It just seemed to me that you came on here to give an unnecessary statement about people trying too hard to be cool for mentioning films like Titanic, Avatar etc. You claim to be passionate about film chat, well i have yet to see one single mention of a film which you would rate as your worst of all time??(the thread question), Plenty of pissing and moaning is all i'm hearing.

And yes Titanic may not be my ultimate worst film of all time, but i never said it was. I just stressed how terrible it was, and it was amongst a short list. It was one of the first films that popped into my mind when i read this thread title.

To prevent dragging this light hearted thread any further into the shit, lets agree to disagree and leave it at that.

OK, here's the deal. I have a friend who is about to have surgery on his anckle. For the next month, he is going to be completely bed-ridden and I will be watching his kids. I wanna torture him by putting the worse movies ever made into the VCR and leaving him to suffer. So, what movies do you recommend? I already have Graffiti Bridge in mind so no need to suggest that one. What else would you recommend? Yes I already know that I'm a complete a$$hole, but that's part of the fun. So what do you suggest?

thumbs up! I like the way you think.

Here's my suggestions:

Spice World

Evolution!

Lost in SPace (this one is so fucking ghastly it's almost too cruel to put it on your list)

La Vie en rose (oscar winning performance aside, this has to be one of the most depressing films I've seen, should be an excellent aid to non-recovery)

I believe Gigli is supposed to be putrid, but I've never seen it.

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Hmm, a lot of good suggestions. Sadly, some of them he'd probably like. Can anyone recommend any foreign films WITHOUT subtitles? That would be hell on earth. No nudity preferred. He'd enjoy that, unless of course is full-frontal male.

The single worst movie I've ever seen in my life.

It makes Graffiti Bridge look like a masterpiece.

It deems me suicidal just to think about it. shake

Followed by this, in second place.

And mind you, shitty B-rated horror movies are my FAVORITE.

So for me not to like this, it has to be TERRIBLE.

It's not even one of those bad movies you can laugh at.

Let me show you HOW shitty this movie is:

Actually...a dubbed version (as opposed to subtitles) is an option on a lot of foreign-film DVDs. But there'd be nothing to stop him switching the language format to subtitles, if he wanted to.

I know for sure there is a dubbed version of Like Water For Chocolate (because it played on TV at least once). I liked that film - but I think it would probably be torture (in either form) for a man.

I loved Like Water for Chocolate. But then, I may not be a good specimen for a male control group here. confused

I'm just going by what happened when I saw the film in a theater. All the men there thought the thing was a comedy. rolleyes

I guess I shouldn't necessarily equate not getting it with not liking it. lol

I agree with some of those mentioned: Superman IV (III wasn't very good either), Undercover Brotha, and The Spirit deserve to be in the conversation but the worst movies I remember seeing are Soul Plane and MacGruber. Those two movies have no redeeming qualities. I expected them to be bad, but I was hoping for a good bad movie. Some of my favorite movies are bad movies-- like Roadhouse or Under the Cherry Moon for example. Hell, Adam Sandler and Will Farrell (spelling?) have made a living on them.

Agreed with Soul Plane. I had a friend tell me I should go see that movie. They also had told me I should go see Boat Trip. I don't listen to that friend's movie recommendations anymore.

Deuce Bigalow 2 - I say the 2nd one because the first one actually had a decent message behind it (shockingly enough) and was funny - the 2nd one was all about gross outs and had way too many disgusting close ups.

John Tucker Must Die - A completely unfunny "comedy" about taking down a womanizing jock - except the jaded exes just make themselves look like fools. No one learns anything in the end and the "resolution" is infuriating.

Not Forgotten - Some shitty straight to DVD "thriller" about I don't even care what....just NOOOO!

Dirty Love - DON'T.EVEN.BOTHER.

Any Paris Hilton film.
