Raiders Send Center Home From Super Bowl 1 hour, 10 minutes ago Add Sports - AP to My Yahoo! By GREG BEACHAM, AP Sports Writer SAN DIEGO - The Oakland Raiders (news) sent All-Pro center Barret Robbins (news) home from the Super Bowl for unspecified violations, the team confirmed Sunday. "He's not going to play. He's been sent home," Raiders spokesman Craig Long said. Long said he didn't know why Robbins was sent home, but ESPN reported that he showed up late for the team's final meeting on Saturday night. CBS SportsLine.com said Robbins missed several team events Saturday and didn't return until later in the evening. The Web site, citing sources it did not identify, said coach Bill Callahan told the team Robbins would be benched in favor of backup Adam Treu (news). Robbins was questionable anyway with a foot injury. But the 6-foot-3, 320-pound player was expected to help contain Tampa Bay's formidable defensive front, led by All-Pro tackle Warren Sapp (news). Oakland linebacker Bill Romanowski (news), interviewed by ABC's Melissa Stark on Sunday, was asked whether the situation was distracting to the team. "It really isn't," he said, declining further comment. Robbins, in his eighth season, anchored a line that gave league MVP Rich Gannon (news) enough time to throw for 4,689 yards and direct the NFL's most potent offense. Robbins was selected to his first Pro Bowl this season, joining tackle Lincoln Kennedy (news) on the team. But Robbins was bothered by a foot injury for much of the season, and he was listed as questionable all week. Robbins, who broke into the Raiders' starting lineup in 1996, injured his right knee last season and missed the final 14 games. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Treu took his place | |
