I sorry, but I'm black. And I have the right to be disappointed with Mel Gibson OR everyone else of any skin color that thinks of black foks as a "pack of n***ers" however I please.

And telling someone a finger statement is NOT racist. So I do NOT understand your logic at all.

"black FOKS" - now you are racist too lol I just noticed on the org that you think every single white person is racist. That's not true. And Mel's not racist (have you read that article with W.Goldberg?). And I still don't understand how could it be possible that black people call themselves N word too.

I realize we're discussing a very sensitive topic, so I want to tread very cautiously. But when you say "black FOKS" (...assuming you mean "Black Folks") are you suggesting that everyone that is Black is racist? Because that's what happens when you speak in absolutes. Then, are you suggesting that you've extrapolated from this forum that all Black people think EVERY SINGLE WHITE PERSON is racist? Because again, you're using absolutes. Then finally, are you suggesting all Black people refer to each other with the "N" word? Because if these things are true as you have written them, you need to get out more.

Are you talking with me or with Tony? Because Tony wrote BLACK FOKS, I tried to turn it to joke. But the last time I did that, Tony called me a "f*cking idiot* for no reason.

To tell the truth, he didn't call black folks in general a pack of niggers. He was talking about a hypothetical band raping a woman. Everybody seems to forget that. Why do we care so much if he offends a group of rapists? Or what's more, why do non-rapists feel offended at all?

Then why assign RAPISTS to ANY particular racial group, if it was solely about RAPISTS. Why couldn't it had been "a pack of [insert derogatory term for a racial/ethnic group other than Black here]" if it was only about a "hypothetical" band of rapists?

And then, to be clear: You feel it's okay he characterized a "group of rapists" as a "pack of niggers"? Like: "Why should we care?" Seriously, are you suggesting that Black people should not be offended that he characterized a group of "hypothetical" rapists as a "pack of niggers"? Respectfully, I'm honestly looking for clarification of your statement.

Yes. If he used the "worst words you can think of" to describe a group of white guys raping a woman I wouldn't feel offended at all (I'm white, I think).

Plus I don't think when you're shouting in anger, really, really angry, you stop and think of the most appropriate words to say. He purposedly tried to sound as nasty as he could. And he used the worst terms he could think of.

Bear in mind there was no black people around. He didn't try to offend anybody but her.

The way some of you are defending Mel Gibson, makes me wonder what constitutes a true racist in your opinion. Because it's clear (...at least to me), that among many other things, Mel Gibson is about as racist as you can get, short of personally hanging a Black person from a tree, or placing a Jewish person in an oven.

And incidentally, as a Black person: I don't feel every White person is racist, nor do I refer to other Black people as "The N-word", in fact I'm firmly against ANYONE doing so. Neither do I refer to ANY racial group by the derogatory terms that have been assigned to them over time.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. Personally I'm sorry that as a group we're not able to all engage in this conversation with cooler heads. But I realize this is a very sensitive topic.

But I'm still wondering: Are you still saying all Black people are racist? Or were you trying to point out that SOME Black people are racist? (...which I would agree). And do you actually believe that Black people (from what you have seen on the org) believe all White people are racist? (...because THAT I would firmly disagree with).

I appreciate you sharing how you would feel under similar circumstances, and I will accept that as YOUR truth.

But are you saying it's okay to use such a derogatory term for Black people as long as no Black people are around? Like: That doesn't count toward racism?

My only point where I said that black people are racist was when I tried to make a joke of Tony's misspelled FOLKS. And I don't believe that all black people believe that all white people are racist.

I hope nobody gets offended when I used words "black" and "white". Actually, I don't understand how could be someone a racist. Those people are just trying to hide the fact that they're afraid of someone. But when Mel said the N word, does it make him a racist when none black was involved? Prince named his album "Goldn...". I know this situation about N word is very, very sensitive. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Mel, but he's not racist. Even Whoopi defended him.

To me there's a more than slight difference between using a forbidden word in a heated argument and "hanging a Black person from a tree, or placing a Jewish person in an oven".

I wish America's history of racism (or the world for that matter) was just that. Words used against others.

Sadly it wasn't so. sad When did you forget that facts hurt more than words?

I really think that somewhere along the way America lost it. I'll tell you why I think so.

What if someone arrives home and finds a group of men raping his wife?

He takes out his gun and blows their heads off and everyone will applaud. Confess. They will.

BUT he uses the tabu word and all hell breaks loose.

Believe me, I know it's like that but I can't understand it and I don't want to understand it. I think it's insane, always from my point of view.

Yes, it's a hot topic: But I believe you and I are mature enough to get through it okay. Again, I appreciate your clarification, but the way it was worded seemed like you were generalizing that ALL Black people feel that All White people are racist. I'm relieved to learn that's not what you meant.

There are plently of Black folks that find that word offensive. They don't want anyone to use it, no matter what your color is. Some Black folks don't care one way or the other.

White folks don't understand these issues because they refuse to acknowledge that there is a racial hierarchy.

Whites are at the top and Blacks are at the bottom. Everyone else is somewhere in the middle. Many Whites don't want to lose "white privilege," so they just say it's not a big deal and move on.

And by Mel saying specifically that he wished for his ex-girlfriend to get rape by a "pack of n***ers" comfirms to me that he has been hiding deep negative opinions about black folks (especially black men) throughout his whole life.

I'm an Old School Brother from back in the day, and when we used to refer to each other with "The N-word", it had quite a different meaning. In fact, I can still listen to Richard Pryor's old records, or even more recently; some of Ice-T's CD's from the 80's & 90's, and actually feel the LOVE when they use that very same word. Nevertheless, it was a term that we only ever meant to be used amongst ourselves in that way. But since those days, too many people have gotten the meaning all twisted (assuming that if we ourselves used it, it must be okay for EVERYONE to use it disbelief ), which is why today I choose not to use the word at all (...well honestly, sometimes... but ONLY with other Brothers that I know extremely well, who I KNOW understand the context in which I'm using it).

Today, I hear Chinese kids on the subway referring to each other with "The N-word", lol. And I realize they have no clue as to the history or use of that word. So... shrug
