I never cared much for baseball, but I will always remember him for his "appearances" on seinfeld.
At any rate, RIP "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

Two days after Bob Sheppard died too. Not a good week for Yankee fans.
Every high-priced baseball player should thank God for George Steinbrenner (that includes the Red Sox).

Not just baseball - Steinbrenner had a HUGE impact on the finances of professional sports. He was the first to embrace free agency. And I lol@ all these idiots who say The Boss was bad for baseball. He played by the rules, (and unlike some owners)took the money he made and put it back into his team, and made the Yankees an international, money-making brand. And now you have teams with their own network.

George Steinbrenner was the most charitable person to have ever lived in the Tampa area. The things he did for children and people that needed help is the stuff of legend. The world has lost a true giant.
I'll miss him, and I didn't even know him.

not to mention that with a reported less than $200,000 out of his own pocket in 1973 turned the NY Yankees into a $1.6 billion dollar company with annual revenue streams of about $600,000.
He was also the visionary behind the additional $1 billion YES network. Channels like NESN and the like would follow suit.

True, The Boss had a bad side - he could be cruel, petty and mistreated a lot of people. Look at how he dealt with his managers, especially Billy Martin. He made illegal campaign contributions to that scumbag Nixon, and tried to get dirt on one of his own players(Dave Winfield).

I'm not all into baseball, but George Steinbrenner always seemed like a bad person to me. I don't know how I got this impression of him, except maybe I felt bad for Joe Torre when he was fired. In any event, so many people have spoken well of him since his passing, and I suppose his good deeds speak for themselves. May he be resting peacefully.

Like everyone (including the little imp who this website is named after), Georgie had his good points and his bad points. However, if every owner ran their team like he did (putting the revenue back into the team instead of pocketing it), it might not just be the Yankees that everyone talks about (or hates)...
