She's had a tough time. Her mom just passed what maybe 2 years ago

and she had been estranged from her. It's crazy to see her like this.

She was a sexy chick back in the day.

Her family has tried to help her MANY times even before her mother died and with this last time. I really hoped she had pulled it together. She had a lot of potential. pray

From what I understand, she suffers from bi-polar disorder. I know from experience, if you are not taking your meds regularly, the results can be devestating....My prayers go out to her.

I guess when you're in that celebrity lifestyle, you have access to all that shit(and are curious to try it because of boredom, depression, whatever). We've seen it time and time again with musicians, actors and pro athletes. Shit, Dwight Gooden is STILL fighting his demons.

I've been in and out of that environment and element since 1987. Not once have I been tempted by that nonsense.

Ever hear of self medicating?

I don't recall Maia but I remember her mom quite well from reading her books. Bebe Moore Campbell was very active with writing and speaking about mental health issues. I always suspected that it was because of a family member.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

You all are missing the point, she has been sick even before turning to drugs. She was diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder as a teen and it all went downhill from there. Once someone who is bi-polar, stops treatment, and this usually involves meds, it is very hard for them to "come back", without medical attention. As I mentioned here before, my girlfriend of 6 years, is bi-polar and it is not easy. But, she has a strong support system within her family and mine and is on medication. She has her good days and bad days, but they are few and far between. Sometimes it is like dating two different women. I feel allot more needs to be done and said about mental illness, because there are allot of people who still don't have a clue as to what to do.

...and alot of times the upper echelon circles of these industries (music, fashion, film), the stuff really just handed to you..literally. Some people simply don't have the stamina, after being asked the 27th time, to politely decline.

Actress Maia Campbell, who was just recently videotaped performing a host of alleged drug-induced antics on a California street, has been arrested, according to Young, Black and Fabulous.

The former co-star of the '90s L.L. Cool J-led sitcom 'In the House' has been incarcerated since July 5 at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., where Lindsay Lohan also did a stint. Campbell, whose bail is set at $40,100, is not allowed visitors but can receive monetary contributions toward her bail via an online sheriff's department Website.

Campbell is the daughter of the late prominent New York Times best-seller novelist and journalist Bebe Moore Campbell. At 33 years old, she has had several strokes of misfortune. There has been speculation that Campbell has been heavily involved with narcotics and may be suffering bouts of bipolar disorder, which has caused her to spiral downward, putting the brakes on a career that was on the upswing.

Campbell has been viewed on two videos rambling, using profanity, looking disheveled and seeming disoriented.

On Wednesday, she had her first court date.

No stranger to bouts with the law, Campbell was arrested back in June, then released just two days later.

I think people do not believe the hype/propaganda about drugs, and they think they are stronger than the next person. If you see stuff like Reefer Madness, it's easy to assume the "Just Say No" stuff is blown out of proportion.

But with some drugs I don't believe it is blown out of proportion. I don't know any casual crack smokers or casual heroin users. I do know casual drinkers, casual pot smokers, casual cigarette smokers, even the occasional casual cocaine user (but that was never something I would risk)

There are more examples that u can count of drugs killing folks and ending careers. I guess people really are stupid.

there are also more examples of people failing to be successful actors & musicians & athletes, but it doesn't stop them from trying.

People like to think they are the exceptions, not the rules.
