The movie "Alive" (1993) and the real life event it's about I just had the pleasure of watching this movie yesterday on one of the many Cinemax channels I have, and I have to say that I can't stop thinking about it. At the time it was released, I was probably just leaving elementary school and going on up to middle school and I faintly remembered the details of the movie and that there was some hype about it in the media because of the survivors having to eat human flesh in order to stay alive after a horrific plane crash in the freezing Andes Mountains. Anywho, while I watching the movie, I looked up the real event on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Flight_571 and I just felt so because of all the terrible things the survivors went through. I couldn't imagine being in the middle of snowy mountains in below freezing weather, injured, starving and watching others around me die on top of grieving for those who had succumbed to the plane crash itself. After reading the real story on wiki, I able to decipher some of the "movie magic" events from the actual "real" events that happened. Has anyone else seen this movie? If so, what was your take on it? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I remember my mother reading the book when it first came out (in the 70's). I don't think any of us could actually answer definitively whether or not we could eat human flesh unless we were in the position. I don't think many of us really have a clue of what we might be capable of given the right circumstances.

What I remember is (and correct me if I'm wrong) that it was a Christian group of individuals that crashed. Always thought there in lies the irony. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

i know a guy who was in the jungle for 3 months in java i think. He said after a month he was begging for a piece of meat and the tribe there shot a dog and he ate it. When he came back he looked like a guy who came out of a war camp. he just looked at me and said:dude..i was starving.
That's some good shit! | |

This was a good remake of the story. The original version called, "Survive", was even better. It came out in 1976 and was great!! "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

On 13 October 1972, a Fairchild aircraft chartered by the Old Christians First XV Rugby team from Uruguay, their families and friends crashed in a remote section of the Andes mountains while en route to Santiago, to compete against a Chilean team. A number of passengers were killed upon impact, while others were seriously hurt.

Interestingly, the survivors were Catholics, most of whom believed their faith not only sustained them through the ordeal, but was deepened as a result.

What would be ironic about this? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

correct. a person who is truly starving will eat anything remotely edible to stay alive. rats, spiders, you name it....
human flesh would be consumed long before any of that would take place, i reckon... everyone's a fruit & nut case

I don't think I could have done that....but at the same time, I can't fanthom the situation that they were in because I've never been in that predicament. So who knows what I would do in a situation of desperation. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It was wild, but the part that angered me the most is the route the pilots were cleared to fly through. I don't think a plane that size had any business flying that route through mountains...taking into consideration the weather and the fog, etc. I just don't get it. The book is way more intense than the movie Yet it's still a testament to the human spirit and will to survive.

I wrote my senior term paper about cannibalism and used that incident to illustrate one of the three main reasons people partake in cannibalism. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
