I have had nothing but bad luck with my landlords here in Utah. I live with 3 other guys in downtown Salt Lake City. Our first landlord, Mike, was less than ideal. He was trying to sell the house, and would often call telling us to be out of there so that he could show it to other people, giving us less than 10 hours notice at times.

Mike also was not understanding. He gave us a Nevada address to which we sent our rent checks. The first couple of months went by smoothly. Apparently in October though, he wanted us to send the checks to an address in Salt Lake. Did he inform us? No. Therefore, his checks arrived IN SALT LAKE CITY late, but not because we didn't send them on time. What did he do? He left a letter with an eviction notice, threatening to kick us out if he didn't get the money. There was no "hey guys, where's the money for October rent?" He simply assumed that we weren't going to pay him.

The worst thing about Mike is that he indeed sold the house in early December. At that time, all three of us were still here. Did he inform us? No. When Bill got back here on the first of January, he met the new landlady who lives in the other half of the duplex, who prompty informed him that she was not going to renew our lease, which expries at the end of January. We could have used the end of the semester to look for new places. The new landlady also informed him that she was taking away one of our parking spaces.

The new landlady, Barbara, is a 62 year old woman. She seems nice, but has not informed us of "remodeling" that she has been doing- she tore down the garage (with some of our stuff still in it) and had a bunch of wood delivered to build a new garage. Where is the wood? On our side of the property.

The latest incident still has me shaking from anger. I was just in the bath, when I heard the doorbell ring. I thought I'd ignore it, but it rang two more times. I go down to be "greeted" by her son Stephen, who proceeded to ask why I wasn't out of there yet. He also asked (tried to force) if I could move out this weekend. I told him that I couldn't, as I will be busy this weekend with school projects. He then brought up the issue of both of my other roommates being out of there. Then he started gabbing about, "She's a 62 year old woman and she's living in horrible conditions over there" as if it was MY fault that she was suffering. I quickly said, "Goodbye" and shut the door in his face. WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS? I have paid for a FULL month's rent, and I plan to use the rest of the month to move out gradually. It is no fault of mine that their side of the duplex (which is bigger than ours) cannot seem to hold only two people.

Is this typical? It cretainly does not make me feel good about renting in general.

Make sure you sign a lease next time that specifies timeframe and your legal rights, along with the landlord's. I'm sorry this is happening to you, Ian

I hate when they cant even clean the place before they show it OR move in for that matter I had to do EVRY damn thing in this new place...I had to paint cause there was fuckin cat hair stuck to every inch of the walls replace ALL the blinds cause the dust was crusted on them SICK!! I dont even want to get into the bath and the kitchen...Its not in a bad area she is just plain fuckin lazy 750.00 a month shit she could have at least hired some one to come and make it hospitable before I moved in!! I had to buy appliance too!!! She wasnt gonna replace the stove that was sitting out in the garage it didnt work no more Oh I have lots more work to do too. She sends this fat ass kid to mow the little yard there is to cut the grass to the dirt once a week!!!

Its illegal for them to do shit like that harassen you to move out you could sue them for this months rent and your moving expenses and deposit on the new place and possibly more !!! GIT YUR SELF A LAWYUR!

SUE SUE SUE!!! you can ALWAYS use the money...I got me a lawyur and he got me 600.00 because I bought a buffer for my car and it put a little scratch in it!!!
That was my most recent venture but shit people make people miser able or there crap dont work ;ike they claim SUE THIER FUCKIN ASS!! shit the make enough money for it! think they dont have insurance for that kind of crap?

Read your lease.. if they haven't followed what you are allowed in it.. then you can sue them or at least makes complaints and get yourself some satisfaction
