Geez Not Another Cat Lady Story

80-year-old Arizona woman found living with 104 mostly dead or dying cats; 10 found in freezer

at 18:54 on July 08, 2010, EDT.
By The Associated Press

WITTMAN, Ariz. - An 80-year-old Arizona woman has been found living with 104 mostly dead or dying cats.

Maricopa County sheriff's officials say the bodies of 10 cats were found in the freezer and other cats were found diseased or dying inside Lucienne Touboul's home in Wittman, about 30 miles (48 kilometres) northwest of Phoenix.

Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Sprong says Touboul was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation because the cats had a disease that can be passed to humans.

He says Touboul also will undergo a mental evaluation and could face charges for felony animal cruelty and threatening to kill deputies if they touched the cats.

Sprong says Touboul had been banned from owning pets after 70 cats were found in her home three years ago. Those cats were either euthanized or sent to rescue homes.

Lets say you have, oh, 90 cats. When do you decide, "hmm, I'd like to get 10 more cats"??

How do you mind 104 cats? My single Maine Coon female is enough for my partner and myself. really she must have mental health issues. I feel sorry for the cats, many no doubt will be unwanted kittens from stray cats or people who are too ghetto assed to have them spayed.

For the record, my one cat Miss Fluffy, wouldn't allow another 103 cats, she can't even cope with a kitten across the road that visits us.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I agree. I love cats, but I could never have that many at one time. How can a person afford to feed all those critters? Poor kitties, sounds like they had a rough life with that lady. sad

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

nod Another kind of common mental illness seems to be hoarding. People who collect piles of garbage, clothes, empty containers, etc. etc. and have trouble parting with them.

nod they experience extreme anxiety when people try and help them by cleaning up. They get very distressed at the thought of parting with their "possessions". I don't even think it can be cured sad people who have had it all cleaned up for them, usually just start again.

They definitely experience extreme anxiety at the very thought of parting with their prized possessions. A lot of them seem to have sentimental attachments to certain items. Not sure if it is totally curable, but I know there is a TV show here in the U.S. about people with a hoarding problem. They have home organizers and psychologists who come in to help them. Not totally sure of the success rate, if it applies, but some of them seem to get better. Hopefully, they don't lapse back into their old habits.

my friend is one, if I leave her place, I know she would love to go through my pockets before I walk out the door, the look in her eyes is one of fear and worry.

my friend's story is one of abandonment. her mother suffered all her life from mental illness and my friend as a child was subject to some extreme mental abuse. Even now, although her mother is now dying, she is afraid of her. Her own father took her to court to contest his own mothers will, knowing that a little bit of money could certainly go a long way for his destitute daughter confused

That's terrible!! I can understand why she has an issue with hoarding, when I read about her childhood. disbelief
