Do y'all think Mel was born with this mentality? Well, maybe not "born with it", but perhaps more susceptible to thinking prejudicially? Maybe he grew up in a very racist/prejudiced environment and this contributed to his character over the years. (Although to blame your present negative actions on your childhood is not a viable argument, it may explain a few things about Mel). Was he like this all his life, or this developed over time? Or is it just when he's angry and drunk that he spews this racially-charged garbage? lol

Meh, who knows. So many questions...most of which only Mel can answer. confused

A lot of it comes from his father, Hutton Gibson. His father doesn't believe in that the Holocaust happened, and believes in a Jew World Domination conspiracy, among other bits of nonsense. They're both very traditional Catholics, in the worst way. He's says "what my father told me was a lie", but apparently not with his Jew-hating, black-trashin' rants of the past couple of years.

Yeah, I heard on the Ed Schultz show that he made some sort of horrible racist comments, but I never had the chance to go online and look it up. I think Mel Gibson is mentally unstable. From what I saw on one of the biography movies about him....he's always been mentally unstable but his first wife was good at soothing him and having him take time out. Seems that he's making his rounds, first the Jews, and now the Blacks....watch out Latinos.

Oh well, all "filters" are removed from racists when they are crazy...or drunk.

But I bet she didn't really have a good experience working with this fool either.

I'm not sad that his career seems to be in ruins anyways. It'll never be back to where it was in the '80s. Good riddance, now run off with Kramer. biggrin

It's a damn shame really. I liked the Mad Max Trilogy. The Lethal Weapon series were classics (except for part 4, which was wack!). Braveheart was epic.

I don't know what went wrong with Mel Gibson the actor OR film maker anymore. It seems like the massive success of The Passion Of The Christ gave him the license to act a damn racist idiot.

Wasn't the Passion of the Christ like the highest grossing movie ever? I heard that it grossed somewhere close to 1 billion dollars. If in fact that is true. Then no...Mel does not have to "behave" anymore. He can just "unravel" himself all the way to the looney bin. Because he never has to work another day if he doesn't want to.

I liked his classic movies such as Mad Max I & II, Lethal Weapon and What Women Want and I still like them but I think I won´t be able to enjoy his newer movies after that antisemitic rant and now this recent racist tirade.

However, I´m not really surprised because his father Hutton Gibson probably layed the foundation for all this, and as far as I know Mel never really distanced himself from his eccentric and extremely rightwing father.

Exactly. nod And Mel made it perfectly clear to Diane Sawyer a few years earlier that he would NEVER go there talking against his father, regardless if his father was wrong about anything or not.

I am very unfamiliar with Mel's father. Who exactly was he ?

I've never been a big Mel Gibson fan nor watched many of his movies so in that respect if I never saw a movie of his it makes me no nevermind.

However, I am not trying to get all offended or bent out of shape over offensive words he used in a private conversation where he is clearly angered. I'm grown enough to know that many many people talk shit about other people in the privacy of their homes that they may not necessarily say in public, whether they are famous or not. I'm sure that many people that I meet in life call me n-word, or b-word, or c-word, or some word that is not my name when I am not around. That's life. I don't live in a fantasy world thinking all people are honest, nice, and open-minded.

Also people using words like that aren't even necessarily being racist, but sometimes just trying to be as offensive as possible (like Michael Richards). Or funny (like Imus with the nappy-headed hoes). Sometimes folk are just ignorant more than anything. I think that people sitting and acting like they never thought or said anything offensive about another person is some wack bullshit.

I think my biggest concern is not what he is saying, but the fact that he seems to be having some psychotic issues or anger issues or substance abuse issues and is falling apart.

Anyway it ain't like Mel Gibson is shit to me, he sounds like an asshole and he should seek some professional help before he has a breakdown or a heart attack.

That's fine, you can use all the racial rhetoric that you want in the privacy of your own home. However, if it ever leaks out....and I find out....I will never ever support you or your work again. Ala Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Seinfield was one of my favorite shows, but after Michael (Kramer) talked about lynching, and calling a black heckler in the audience a "N"....I'm mentally done with that show. I just can't see it in the same light anymore. Because now the fact that there are no black regs on that show , it makes me raise my eyebrows at it now.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Three things...

First, I was not at any time defending Mel Gibson. His actions are disgustingly reprehensible. Period.

Second, I don't believe in reading between the lines. Assuming never gets you anywhere but in more trouble than it's worth. There are facts and truths, and then there is fiction and lies. For me, there is no middle ground in this regard. Whole societies have been ruined by people reading between the lines. If I say something it's exactly what I mean and that's the way I expect it to be taken. Unfortunately, that's not how our sensationalism loving, haterade drinking world works right now.

Third, some of y'all need help. lol

My favourite post of the thread.

Several people have made mention to his (seemingly) recent change in behaviour. It is possible he's suffering from early stage dementia or something.

Whatever the cause, ugly business.....

anyway pt.2 Mel is losing it as a person, yeah, the divorce, the anti-semitic rants, alcoholism, now this, wtf... he should have died after Braveheart, he should have been a fuckin' legend, but now he's destroying a legacy of 16 years of worthy cinema (79-95)..

Huh? Because some people are closet racists, and if they aren't ,they are in denial about racism against blacks by whites in this country. They are always "eager" to give a "pass" to people, and try to convince themselves into believing that "he didn't really mean what he said' (and some blacks also fall for the B.S.). It is clear to me what he said...it is clear that he harbored those negative thoughts and words in his heart and when it was the right time...they came spewing out. Never ceases to amaze me how people minimalize things.
