Got my motherfucking ipad

I don't consider myself an easy sell - and I'm generally aghast to our reptilian remnants coming to the fore in an acquiesce of technology and evolutional deconstruction - but this thing is a bit wondrous. I must hum like a Philip Dick neuron when using it. Any other skeptics converted once they actually used the thing?

when i was getting my new iphone the guy in line next to me had one and let me have a quick look. it was a lot better than i thought originally. he had this cool RSS reader on it that updated his sites and showed about 8 onscreen at once and then just flipped back and forth to the option menu. he said he just bought it on impulse, although had a bit of hassle finding one in stock. i think they are a bit overpriced for what they are, particularly as it's pretty much an iphone with bigger screen rather than a osx/windows based OS. i have my hackintosh netbook running osx that gives me full internet and itunes etc, and a proper keyboard which is great for forum use, so i can't really justify paying £600 or so on one. if it was about £200 ish then i would consider it, but it's basically the middle ground between iphone and netbook and i have both of those. i wouldn't use either to watch movies or read books, so the kindle type use isn't for me, although ibooks is pretty cool. i've just uploaded a stack of pdf files of controversy and uptown to my iphone, along with loads of old books so i can pretend i'm interested in educashunable shit or the bible

i can't say i've missed not having flash on the iphone though, most sites i frequent don't use it as a necessary part. i usually block ads and don't look at the streaming media. it just means i can't access any official prince webshite ever, as those will always be based around some format that isn't compatible with what most people use. prince has given up on the internet and went back to using newspapers, just as newspapers are giving up on print and prince. i'm looking forward to getting 20ten from the sunday sport next weekend

you have one of them quadrophonic scooters don't you? so you can ride around on it with your maxipad like in the telly ad and pretend your in a modern day mtv remake of la dolci and gabbana

you could make your own. just buy a laptop/pc thats got recommended specs and follow the guide. the one i have took about 30 minutes to turn from a fresh out the box brand new linux running netbook to fully working hackintosh, including the 23 minutes it took to install osx, then another 30 minutes of installing my programs, and tweaking everything to perfection. it boots up in 24 seconds from a SSD drive, and from power off i can get online to a website in 30 seconds from wifi or 3g. so a 30 second delay over using ipad/iphone. it's just as fast as an "instant on" linux install, but more fully featured than meego

internal SSD, only 8gb, but i managed to install and then shrink down the install by removing the foreign langauges and PPC support, and then i got firefox, itunes, garageband, open office and a bunch of other utlities on it that i've hardly used, i've also got a 16gb SDHC card for extra storage, and it's got 3 usb slots to plug in flashdrives etc if you need more. i also installed apps to let me read and write NTFS from my windows network and i can do the same on my windows pc's with the apple file system. i can also close the lid on it without it going into sleep mode or shutting down, and i have a couple of different remote access programs installed so i can access my windows pc's remotely over the internet. it even plays 720p material fine, even over wifi

you can reassign any keys, so i use CTRL as the apple key, so if you are used to windows you use similar commands to activate the osx versions

i mainly use it as a netbook, or i should say i use my netbook as it's intended, which is to surf the web on a light portable machine that's easy to carry. it was doing everything fine, but recent updates to itunes meant that i couldn't access the apple store as it needed a safari update that meant i'd have to update a few things and unlock everything again, and the latest 9.2 itunes installed fine but i couldn't use the iphone4 on it as you need snow leopard to use it. i might just go back to an older version of itunes as that would work better. i keep all the different versions of stuff like that in case i need it for hacktivating stuff

there's a chart. the dell mini 9 is a great one, but they stopped making them a while back. the mini 10 has different hardware but can run it. i would suggest you find a model that's easy to get running, as others may run it or run it better, but it's harder to get it to work

http://mydellmini.com/ is a great site for those models, with an osx section

dual boot is a bit more complicated. i used a version of osx that was put together for the msi wind which has similar components to the dell mini, so i could just stick it in and install, then do a few manual changes, then use the official apple update to bring to the next version and it was bang up to date at the time. as it was working perfectly i resisted the urge to upgrade, especially considering my friends with real macs have well out of date systems

the drive gets formatted as you install it, just like a windows install. but you usually need just 1 drive in the pc with 1 or 0 partitions or you can't fool it into thinking it's a mac - depending on the technique you use. i wouldn't try on a drive that has data you don't have backed up

the west end leaves me cold mostly too, so I've never tasted the Guinness in there, but it'd need to go a long way to beat Heraghty's, but that might be too south of the river for you.

Talking of the west end, I saw three Scottish superstars there last time I ventured over. Michelle McManus, the gay pakistani guy from big brother a few years back and glen michaels. Ok, the last one was just a guy who looked vaguely like him, but I still shouted "where's yer lamp?!" just one or two times too many.
