Hey all. My son and I are in Big D for the weekend and I want to find a church to attend Sunday. I'm looking for the church with the best music - rock, funk or spiritual, it doesn't matter.

Any ideas?

What is TD Jake's church, The Potter's House, like?

I don't live in Dallas and never been there, but I have a friend who has been to TD Jake's church.

They seem to like it.

I'd love to know your impressions, Rodeo. I've never attended a service, but I've visited the place, and I was struck by how HUGE it was. I can't imagine I'd personally like worshipping in that environment.

In the 90's, I was in the intro credits to TD Jake's The Potter's House. It showed a story line of a homeless woman getting a job and taking care of her kid. It also showed a drive by shooting, and a woman (my friend Gale that I've mentioned before) holding her dead child who was shot by accident. I was one of the people near the ambulance looking on at the horror. The homeless woman was the director's wife, and child. The restaurant she goes into is the Denver Grill, which was a great landmark cafe in Tulsa. I've yet to find that intro on YouTube. I'd love to see it again. The whole thing was shot in one evening in Tulsa. We had a blast doing it.

Interesting. I'd be surprised if the Potters House doesn't have streaming episodes, available downloads or DVD copies of their old stuff. I bet you could find it if you dug around.

It was FANTASTIC. So much love! So, so much love. I really can't describe the vibe. Just so, so much love in that house.

TD Jakes might be the best speaker I've ever seen. He's darn sure the best preacher I've ever heard. If yesterday's sermon is on TV, check it out. The message is about submission, and it is so right on.

The service lasted 2 1/2 hours but I didn't realize it until afterwards. Man oh man, was it so great.

When you go, they'll ask you if you're a first-timer. Be sure to say "yes" because they have special seating for you up front. That was really great when Bishop Jakes called us to the altar because I got to pray right on the steps.

The music was just phenomenal. Think of the church scene in "The Blues Brothers". Unbelievable energy, and the horn section was so tight and funky. Those dudes could play with Prince in a heartbeat. Only complaint I can think of was that like with every other praise band I've heard, the guitar was turned down a tad too low.

The singers were tremendous, especially the male lead. He's a truly gifted performer.

I am so thankful I got up and made the drive. I can't wait to go back!

Believe it or not, I am a lifelong Houstonian but I've never been there. I went to the old Lakewood Church one day to drop off donations after Tropical Storm Allison, but it was a Tuesday, so there weren't services.

I'm like a New York City native that's never been to the Statue of Liberty. I've gotta change that!

I first saw Jakes when he was still in Virginia. He was on TBN and looked like he had been living in a cave for 30 years...lol. ( Usually, when preachers go through a bunch of hardships, they come out preaching like beasts! ) ...Lol

I fell in love with him then... Never thought I'd see him again until one day I checked my mailbox and got a misplaced post card saying he was gonna be at Ed Montgomery's church......I called every friend i had at that time, put an blurb on my radio show and it was on and poppin.....

But that was back when I followed preachers like a love sick groupie...lol

when i was on vacation visiting my parents in san antonio texas they took me to their mega-church called "corner stone" the pastor is john hagee, and he's on tv as well...TBN channel too. it's not my kind of church.....i didn't feel at ease there at all!

John Hagge is a beast too......he is strickly for being "ready for the judgement" tho... Yikes! ...lol
