It's definitely worth a try. Seems like right now there is no penalty or if there is, it's hardly enforced. Woman and children probably have little value in South Africa...still looked at as property. If some men are so emotionally attached to their penises and have some uncontrollable urge to rape and torture then castration is the least any society can do to try and deter such horrible crimes or at least greatly diminish a man's capacity to commit those crimes in the first place. I would think if some of those superstitious types would deem castration a fate worse than death and thus keep their damn dicks in their pants.

As a woman who has been raped I love this. Yes, there are pros and cons, but if both my legs were eaten I'd still want to kill the lion. Thanks for your honesty (bolded part) because that's what this whole sensitivity surrounding castration (for serial and violent rapists) and vasectomies (for men who don't want to be fathers but continue to make babies) is about. Some guys taking every and any issues having anything to do with a penis personally.

You do know that women are usually taken by surprise from their attackers, don't you? Their reflexes aren't often quick enough to pull out their own weapon, then (in the case of the knife) overpower the men who are trying to rape them. When I was younger , I often worked late and on my way home I usually walked with a knife out openly (a hunting blade like the one pictured ). I wore sneakers I could run in and never had earphones in my ear, I always looked alert and was very aware of my surroundings.

One night, I was almost attacked from behind, he ran up on me but when he saw the knife in plain view and I looked like WTF, then he said "Oh um... hi." turned right around and jogged back to where he came from, just like that. It was weird.

This dude ran up on me by some bushes, I heard him running up on me at the last minute but I couldn't outrun him. So I decided to walk very fast but I gripped the knife hard and had it ready to swing. He was bigger than me and would have over powered me if it were not for me walking with a damn knife out in the open like a crazy woman.

But it worked, THANK GOD ...as a deterrent and I didn't have to use it. He just saw it and that was it, he didn't want to chance getting stabbed. So yes, I will teach my daughter (like I taught my son) to do the same when they find themselves in a vulnerable position. BTW... I try my best not to be in those situations now since rape is escalating in my area.

My postion, I rather go down fighting. Its bad enough when men you know force sex on you (this has happened to me on more than one occassion) , never mind a total stranger.
