When I turned 18, my friends took me to a bar so I could order my first drink. I ordered a tequila sunrise, because I knew the name from the Eagles song.

Im not a big drinker, but when disco became the rage, and I went to my first disco, my friends ordered 7 and 7's (seagrams 7 and 7=up.) so that became my drink.

which morphed into tanqueray's and tonics because that's what my older cousin drank and he read GQ and he said Tanqueray was the only tanqueray that had a fragrance and you could tell if they were ripping you off or not, and I cant tell you how many drinks he sent back because he couldn't smell the tanqueray....

when I got into my 20's, I prefered Vodka, and Absolut was my preferred brand...and that's lasted till now,

and I'm back to Gin and Tonics.

I tried Sapphire Bombay and really liked it, but I would like to try the Tanqueray 10 which is supposed to be highly rated.

I love Tanqueray and tonic. That's my drink, although I love red wine and beer as well. Tanqueray 10 is amazingly smooth. I love it.

I love sweet drinks such as rhum, manzana, pear brandy, stuff like that.

And "vins cuits" too (wine which kept macerated with sugar and under warm, spice cooked wine, mulled wine, greek muscat...)

I like mexican beers....corona, pacifico, modelo .... and the american beers which now are flavored with lime...BL Lime, Miller Chill....good summer beers.

Mixed drinks....haven't tried many, but I do like cranberry and vodka.

Wines....I help my wife drink some of her choices, she likes the fruity wines from Arbor Mist...

Mountain Dew, straight up!

I used to like Bacardi and Coke but nowadays, I get that icky face whenever I drink it. I'm more of a strawberry margarita/daq type of girl now.

Whisky and Tonic

I get a lot of stick for this and I can't spend a night out in the same bar without the barstaff gettting it wrong at least once (Whisky and Soda tastes like piss).

And in my years as a bartender myself, I never once served it.

My dad would always have a whisky and tonic after dinner when I was a boy - apparently, it is a Mauritian men's thing. I would always beg for a sip (and pour myself a generous one when he was out of the house).

I would often say to him that when I grew up I would be just like him and drink Whisky and Tonic every day.

We've not had much of a relationship for the last 20 odd years, but although we live seperate lives on opposite sides of the planet, we still have whisky and tonic.

(oh, forgot to add - post below reminded me - it absolutely must not be any of that nasty bourbon shit - Irish or Scottish only)

My signature drink is Jack (Daniels) and Coke. Other than that, I can down some Hynotic straight. These days I a drink called "Doggystyle" has been on my radar more frequently than the others mentioned.

I normal drink Beringer White Merlot...but my poison this weekend was lots and lots of Patron.
