Journalists have an obligation to society to report the truth and nothing but the truth.
Your question is a multi-layered one, though. Are you talking about accuracy in reporting? Are you talking about being non-sensationalistic? Are you talking about protecting sources? Are you talking about being fair and non-partial in reporting?

Are you talking about private residents or celebrities? Celebrities are private citizens too! The only exception I might make would be for politicians. Fear is the mind-killer.

Well, from a legal standpoint, celebrities give up their status as private citizens when they become famous. That's why it's so difficult for them to sue for libel or slander.

Personally, I draw the line at not telling the truth and at ratting out sources. Also, I have never approached anyone who I didn't think would want to speak about a tragedy that they or a family member had gone through. There are all sorts of other ways to approach a story and get information without traumatizing a victim.

I think both partys are fair Game.Celebrities need them as much as Journalist need them&over time in alot of cases more so because they need too start a story or have there name mentioned.people in the Entertainment Game don't want Personal stuff out except on there own Time period but yet if a Record Company or a Movie studio arranges them too be seen in a certain light than that has too be reported as it's viewed.I think the Line is when it's something really serious but it all depends on the Artist&the situation??mistermaxxx

It doesn't seem like the question is defined that well. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
