Soap Operas Suck!

Okay,I admit it,I used to be intrigued by soap operas.Occasionally,I would tune in just to see what was going on.After awhile,I got hooked on watching "All My Children" (got a crush on Susan Lucci...lol),"One Life To Live" and "General Hospital".Soaps can be very addictive.

But that was then, this is now.The other day,I came home early from work and just for fun,I decided to tune into the soaps and see what I was missing.Wtf?? The soaps are so incredibly stupid and lame!! Do people really STILL watch this crap?? Here's some crazy BS that I saw...

***"All My Children"---Why in the hell is Liza STILL with Adam??!! He looks like he could be her father! How many more schemes does he have to conceive before she wakes up and dumps his no-good ass??

***"One Life To Live"---Oh great, after ALL these years,we find out that the evil Mitch Lawrence (who is supposed to be dead) is not only alive, but is also JESSICA'S REAL FATHER!! How clever!

***"General Hospital"---Brenda is "back from the dead",and everyone is involved in some lame "whodunnit" plot after a man was found dead (presumably,an evil man).Very original.

Again,I ask...who watches this repetitive,unrealistic crap?? smile

Basically, for the most part, soap operas only seem to have a few storylines that they just keep recycling over and over...

***Evil twins---a major character will have a brother or sister that looks just like them, but is evil and out to cause trouble.Inevitably, the evil twin win will lock the "nice" one up somewhere, then pretend to be them.

***Faked pregnancy---y'all know how this storyline works.A woman is in danger of losing her man (usually to a prettier, nicer girl on the soap...lol),so what does she do? She lies and says she is pregnant, forcing the guy to stay with her (for 9 months,at least...lol).

***Amnesia---Only on a soap opera could a person lose their memory.I mean, does this happen in real life...that often??

***"Long lost" children---On soaps, long lost children pop up all the time.On "One Life To Live",Vicki recently learned that Natalie is her daughter. Many years ago,she discovered another long lost daughter (Megan).Who wants to bet that she probably has a long lost son somewhere out there, too? wink

***Switching paternity tests---another predictable plot. There are several variations to this plot, but here is the most common one...A woman is pregnant but she doesn't know who the father is.Is it her lovely husband,or his brother?? No problem, she simply goes to the hospital and switches the paternity results and everything is fine. For now.

***Dead people coming back "from the dead"---Why even get sad when one of your favorite characters die? You know they'll be back in a year or so,with some lame excuse about being stranded on some island,or having amnesia and winding up in some other country...lol...

***Interrupted weddings---"Wait!! You can't marry her,John...I still love you!!!" smile

I used to sit and watch 2 of these shows, back in the 70s and 80s...

General Hospital: I was there for the entire Luke and Laura stuff...Ice Princess <---made me get sick of the show.

The Young and the Restless: I absolutely loved this show for many years...got sick of it when they started focusing too much on Christine Blair...who incedentally is the daughter of Y&R creators William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. Then her weak storyline overran the show...

Anyways, now I think they are dumb, but who am I to judge?

In recent years, they have tried to re-vive the whole "Luke and Laura/Ice Princess/Cassadine" plot but it's not nearly as interesting as it was back then (1981).Nowadays,Luke looks like a homeless bum in need of a good shave...lol...

Back in my early (and less educated) teens I used to watch a vide variety of runny cow ovulations known also as 'Soap Operas'.

Neighbours - every dreamy teenagers wet dream.

Coronation Street - every snot nosed old grannys wet dream.

EastEnders - every other sad bastads wet dream.

Of course, as everyone in UK knows, EastEnders is the only soap worth watching, mainly because the story lines are more entertaining (albeit a bit more unrealistic) and the acting is far better, with the exception of the young guy who plays Spencer...what the fuck is all that about!!??

I am shocked they chose such a shit actor 4 such an important role. That day Spencer and Martin accidentally ran over and killed Jamie and Spencer went home and panically explained with tears in his eyes what happened to his brother Alfy I couldnt stop fucking laughin...

eek
ahem...anyway...I will go back 2 being unweird now...

Ha! Nothing beats Luke/Laura, Duke Avery/Anna DeVane (I just thought she was TOOO drool), Holly, the Cassadines/Ice Princess storyline from the early 80s.

Remember Luke and Laura's theme song? "Baby Come to Me"? I remember their shit had gotten so popular Luke and Laura did an autograph tour around the country making appearances to record crowds that would show up to get a glimpse of the fairy tale couple.

There was also a rap song that recounted the whole Luke/Laura thing, called "General Hospitale." I have that layin around somewhere on MP3.

The two most popular soaps in the UK, Eastenders and Coronation Street attract regular audiences of between 15-20 million. That is just fucking scary. That's like a third of the UK's population. Not good.

Then they had that whack-ass alien storyline with "Casey" the alien. Gawd, it was STUPID. Finola Hughes aka Anna DeVane was the best actress on that show at that point.

In France "The young & the retless" = les feux de l'amour (the fire of love) rolleyes, & there's a fuckin awfully terribly stupid soap in the morning "amour , gloire & beauté" (love, glory & beauty) the characters are Ridge Forrester, Marcy ...
This thread makes me think of "Nurse Betty" (Zellweger/Freeman/Rock) in this movie the soap's name is "A Reason To Love", isn't it funny (& poignant too)when Betty decides to meet the characters?
