So, had there not been a European influence, it wouldn't be an "easy going Muslim country"?
But just to let you know, there were intellectuals & scientists who happen to be women in Baghdad in the middle ages back when 1/2 of Europe's population were living in caves, so kill this condescending "first muslim country to allow education" nonsense.

Have you seen the Nubian people who live in the south of Egypt? Have you EVER been to Egypt? Or the "foot in the mouth" routine is just an impulse?

I know the Nubians, yes.

I have been to Egypt, there are more black people in the Netherlands........

This discussion is about the Egyptian population 2300 BC which was dominated by the Nubians(who happen to be the ORIGINAL Egyptians before everybody migrated).

There probably aren't many on the board that have been to 2300 BC Egypt or seen a Nubian from that era. One of the really old folks on here perhaps...

2300BC ? That's more or less 2300 years Before Cleopatra. More than what separates YOU or me from Cleopatra.
Anyway | |

Well, smarty pants
The Nubians who happen to occupy the Egyptian southern region are the direct descendants of the population who lived there in Cleopatra's time.

Thandie Newton would have been a good choice. I guess her look is non-threatening.
Why not an unknown actress? I'm getting bored with the bulk of these chicks hollywood is throwing at us.

I agree!
Cleopatra is SO over-exposed. Can we see a film about Nefertiti, or better yet Hatshepsut, the FIRST female Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt? Not Queen, not Consort, not Co-Regent – Pharaoh. I’d def pay to see that,,,couple of time.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
OMG YES!!! I would pay triple to see that movie. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

If hollywood (and the movie going public) doesn't get tired of making all those damn James Bond and Queen Elizabeth films then why should they get tired of making Cleopatra?

Sorry you read it that way. Not my intention. I did say 'Womens education' BTW, and i was referring to an era that's relevant, not the distant past, which can be questioned as to it's accuracy..
I was just going by what i was told by a local tour guide whilst there and what i read in a museum in Monastir.
I suggest you look up Habib Bourguiba, Tunisias first president. One of his title was 'The liberator of Women'. after independance, womens rights were the 1st thing on his agenda, the 1956 personal status code banned polygamy and ended divorce by renunciation, he placed restrictions on arranged marriage, setting a minimum age of 17 for women and giving them the right to refuse arranged marriage.
He was outspoken on the Hejab branding it an 'odious rag' which he saw as demeaning and banned it from schools, it's unusual to see a woman in Tunisia under 40 that wears them, not wearing them is equated to their liberty.
This guy has a portrait up in nearly every business i walked into, he's that respected there.
Hope that wasn't condescending. Just facts.

They SHOULD get tired of remaking the same damn story with different A-list, B-list and C-list actors...but because the almighty green rules, they just keep remaking the same bullshit movie trying to make it the "biggest blockbuster" ever!!! Then have the shit come out during the summer so that it can gross the most money of all time. It doesn't matter if they get the actual correct skin tone of the actress they choose to represent Cleopatra because guess what WE WILL NEVER SEE AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE STORY, PERIOD!!! Hollywood isn't and never has been a business of depicting accurate stories, they always have and will always be in the business of MONEY MONEY MONEY PEOPLE!!!! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

And that is why there's hope in independent cinema,,,,they're more about the craft than the brand.

Some stuff on here is as surreal as Abierman's YouTube movie. This is also the reason why I never consciously read threads or post on the P+R forum; people just completely locked in their own opinions and wanting to score points or something or just out there to bait, instead of actually debating.
Some people on here scored points though. I love PunkMistress. Kick ass woman. I forgive her for being SO American she's got a gun. >>

Also, people ranting about Hollywood being unfair should snap out of it; OF COURSE it's unfair. Just like the models in Vogue are not 'normal' women either; it's a product, based on making LOTS of money. And they will always chose to make as much possible money as they can.
I can't blame them.
On the other hand, there are LOADS of off-beat producers that actually DO get good stuff out there. And if you want things to change, find ways to back those people up by going to see the right movies.
And don't talk all the way through it. And don't take noise food with ya. And turn you freakin' phones of, nitwits. >>

And thats what some of us are actually doing
Mind you, I really can't say I'm shocked by the choice of casting,,,,,,but I can't help being annoyed by it either.
