My toenail

I was in a bit of an angry, agitated mood this morning and I wasn't watching what I was doing. I walked into my bathroom and stubbed my toe... done that before, but this time, the WHOLE of my middle toes nail, came off in one whole chunk...

I spent the rest of the day, getting taxis to the doctors for them to dress it and shielding it from my son so that he doesn't accidentally step on me.

Now I'm into my evening and it is throbbing and hurts more now than when I did it. It is making me cringe everytime I picture it - pissing with blood and raw skin... ill

Have you, or anyone you know, done this? I wanna know how long it takes to heal. I feel incredibly vulnerable without this toenail... I know that may sound weird, but I do... I'm afraid of knocking it, or it being knocked because a smigeon of pressure has touched it today and it is fucking painful - brings instant tears to my eyes.

Also, a sick part of my mind keeps scaring myself, by imagining salt on it, or a cheese grater going along it... Fuck knows why I'm thinking that...

whoa. that must hurt. oddly enough i'm in a similar situation (hurt a finger on a trick chair) and i found something that works! go to your pharmacy and buy something called Spenco second skin Quick Heal. it comes in a little blue tube and is approved for use on gashes, burns, dermal ulcers the like. what it is, is you put it on (after cleaning and semi-drying the wound, then let it dry. covers the raw flesh and soothes it too, dries into a soft scab. bandage over that and you're set

Ouch! That is a very nasty thing to happen to you ... I did something similar when I was a kid, it's fucking painful sad Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Anyway I'd say just keep it well dressed and clean, wear well-fitting shoes that protect your feet well, and the healing process will start kicking in soon enough.

Thanx man. I don't think I can wear a shoe on that foot, it makes pressure on the toenail. I think I'm going to have to wear an open toe sandle. cry hurry back nail, sniff, moan, cry...

I wouldn't wish that upon anybody. Even if Osama Bin Laden himself came to me with his toe messed up like that, I'd feel sorry for the guy and wanna make him a nice cup of tea to cheer him up.

:O Oh my, Therapy...I used to do that all the time as a kid. What I used to do was wear slippers, as much as I can. I think they are called "flip-flops". Those expose the toe for comfort.

It's a tough call to try to protect it, since it also needs to air out for fast healing. I also would put an antibiotic ointment, and non-stick dressing (loosly of course).

Keeping it raised also helps limit swelling...

TRON

Okay. My brother has gone through this countless times. He almost lost his whole toe once. What you need to do is soak it in Phisoderm and aloe twice a day. This will speed the healing process. Then lightly towel dry. Spray with Bactine and use some Neosporin or A&D on it. Gently wrap with some non-stick guaze and always wears a sock. You'll be up and running in no time. smile
