The main reason behind the success of The Jeffersons, Good Times, and (especially) All In The Family is the political incorrectness of it all. If you're not a causal fan of politically incorrect humor, those shows were not good for you.

OH PLEASE!

Spike Lee's movies are politically incorrect and right on the money. Norman Lear shows were what you might tell a 12 years old whippersnapper with a "Lets shut those n*ggas from NAACP up with a couple of shows so they won't boycott us" atmosphere lol

They're light humor sitcoms, if you wanna check your brain at the door, they're the shows for you, and like Chocolate said, Norman Lear's view of black people was probably from a paragaraph he read from a book.

Harle, you don't understand.

THIS^ is 100% pure political incorrectness. Spike Lee had his moments with Jungle Fever & Do The Right Thing (Spike's best ever!). But even he never had the balls to take political incorrectness over the limit like Norman Lear did with this classic All In The Family episode.

Yes she got re-married and moved to Arizona. Willona would stop by and check on them. lol

But she would "call" and they would "pretend" to talk to her on the phone

She came back for the final season though. They got a new place outside of the ghetto (even Willona moved next door)

Wow!!! faint I've got to get my hands on that final season. Heck...I need the whole dang series!

nod You can get the entire series box set, which has all the seasons packaged together. It's a reasonable price, too.Around $50.

Do you guys ever go to the Sitcoms Online site? They have message boards for EVERY TV show ever made! The 'Good Times' forum is amazing! I learned alot about the show from visiting that forum.

I also remember within the first episode of The Jeffersons, the story of Helen & Tom got retconned AND rewritten as well.

This episode was shown on TV yesterday, lol:

I've been watching re-runs of all these shows since I was born, lol. I've always thought All In The Family was comical, and I've seen every episode of Good Times and The Jeffersons. They're two of my favorite sitcoms ever. They came on every night growing up, and I would literally run to the TV to watch them before my bedtime. lol I've never really liked Sanford and Son though. That show wasn't as funny to me, and Lamont would get on my nerves, lol.

It's the first season of The Jeffersons, from (yet another) episode where G'worge, completely drunk off his own sense of new wealth and self-importance decides to lavish Lionel with a fancy gift for apparently no reason ( this episode compliments another scenario little later when Lionel also starts to become spoiled, jaded, shiftless, and condescending to others in his new life as a rich kid on campus-that is until his mom and her uncle snap his ass back into place and remind him how hard his ancestors worked for him to enjoy the life of privilege he now has and its blessings to which he's become oblivious to). Louise, who remains completely unaffected by her new surroundings and experiences, questions her husbands bid to Keep Up With The Joneses at every turn, and when he walked in with this watch for Lionel (imagine how much $300 was worth 35 years ago when this episode aired)...she told him exactly what she thought about indulging their son with that kind of extravagance.

wow, I can't believe some of these responses. I LOVED THIS SHOW!! I am from a white working class family who always rented and never owned and I so much more related to this family then I did the Cunninghams of Happy Days who they were positioned against. The mother was a strong woman, a trustworthy friend, intelligent and not daffy like Mrs C. Despite the fact that, like most woman who can not spend thousands on their look, she was far from flawless her husband loved her dearly. The only other show I can think of that showed blue collar people as having any common sense at all is Roseanne. Most shows have the characters from my economic bracket barely able to speak english - AND ENGLISH IS THEIR ONLY LANGUAGE.

Who wouldn't want to know a family like this?

The one thing I loved about "Cheers" was that they knew they were a comedy show. They never, ever got sad or went melancholy.

If I want sad or melancholy, I'll watch a soap opera.

No disrespect to Denzel Washington, but John Amos was IMHO far more handsome than Denzel.
