Question For the Parents in the Crowd

I have this theory (based more or less just on anecdotal evidence, but a theory nonetheless) that more first-born children than not are "surprise" babies rather than planned.

So, if you don't mind divulging, for those of you who are parents:

How many kids do you have?
How many of these were planned versus "oops" kids?
Did birth order have anything to do with it?

Full disclosure: Though my parents were married for 5 years before having me, I was most definitely the result of, shall we say, a protection failure. My younger sister was planned, since they figured, "Hell, we already have one. Can't have an only child now, can we?" lol

My parents pretty much told me I was an oops. I was the 2nd of 3.

The 3rd was was planed to the point of my mom was baby sitting and realized she was ovulating so she called my dad to knock her up on the bathroom floor.

We've got one daughter, born seven years into our marriage. She was planned.

We didnt try to avoid getting pregnant the first time... Just didnt use protection, but we werent "trying"

The second time, we had decided we wanted to try to get pregnant again, then one day at the library our daughter was acting up and so we thought we'd wait a little longer so she would be a little older so it would be easier to handle 2 children....exactly 9 months later we had a boy! lol

They are only 19 months apart...

How many kids do you have? 4 ~ the first 2 were his from his 1st marriage that I started to help raise at ages 5 & 6

How many of these were planned versus "oops" kids? Both of ours ( the second 2 ) were birthcontrol failure babies, never considered as "oops" children though and never regreted ~ they made it past the pill and condom use so they were meant to be ! biggrin I got "fixed" after Jess was born because I was proof positive BC does NOT work 100% and we already had 4

Did birth order have anything to do with it? Nope

My parents were married for 4 years before they had me. They were enjoying the childless life- my Dad drag raced and they did all kinds of fun stuff.
I was kind of planned, tho, because my uncle and aunt started talking about starting a family, so my Mom became determined to have the 1st grandchild. lol
My cousin wasn't actually born until 2 and a half years later- 3 weeks before my sister. shrug

I have an older brother who was my Dad's "oops" a year before my parents married... he kinda had 2 gfs. neutral

Yea, I've always thought "accident" sounded better than "mistake", even "unplanned" is better than both of those.

Accident implies "we didn't mean to do it" but Mistake implies "we didn't mean to do it and we regret it. Damn, wish we had a time machine or a genie or something" lol

I have super control over my junk....

Both of our kids were planned. Wife got off the pill in both instances and she was pregnant within a few months.

Our youngest is 12 and we haven't used any form of BC since she's been born.
Yep, super control over my junk.

lol

I have one son. Planned but thought I would have more time trying.

Old women can get pregnant quick apparently.

He is going to be an only child like me (though I do not think I was planned, if so, it was a last ditch effort to save a marriage, or something stupid like that) unless we adopt a girl in the future.

I am always fascinated by child order and how it effects ppl.

I was not the typical spoiled only child.

Two kids. First wasn't planned, but we weren't using protection either. We decided if it happened, fine. The second one (born 2.5 years after the first) was an oops in a way, but again, we weren't using protection, so I'm not sure I could say he was an oops. Second one was still a surprise, though.

We have three beautiful daughters. Every one was "planned". Birth order had nothing to do with it.
