Too playful, too little fiery spirit, too many dislikable players.
England all the way. dave, i appreciate you are english, but dislikable players? No one is more dislikable than a cretin like John Terry, ably assisted by Wank Lampard and Ashley Cole. “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

Terry is an arsehole, but quite intelligent for a football player, Frank plays for the wrong club, but other than that he's quite cool, Cashley was lured by money (like so many players nowadays - but, uhm, especially Brazilians...?), but can at least give a proper interview.
Look at Dida, Cafu, Robinho, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ze Roberto, Kaka, Juan, Lucio, Julio Baptista, ...
There were two cool players in the history of Brazil: Pele and Roberto Carlos.

I say 2-1
Hi Senik | |

You are showing your age Davey boy, to say there have only been two cool Brazilians is mental.
Socrates, Eder, Carlos Alberto, Rivelino, Garrincha, Romario, Falcao, Zico, the whole of the 1970 WC winning team FFS! Socrates smoked 40 fags a day and still played at the top level. And he was a doctor. A doctor of medicine, not a doctor of tiddlywinks or some shite. That is as cool as it gets
Terry, Lamps (!) and Cole all epitomise the new age Premiership scumbag. The only thing the Terry household seems good for is cheating on yer pals and dealing coke. If your barometer for cool is the ability to give an interview we're not on the same page my friend.
Football didn't start when Rupert Murdoch began bankrolling the premiership. Some say it actually ended then “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

Fair enough. The others were all gifted football players, but didn't add any spice to the game. They played their fun-game how they learned to on the streets, but didn't even seem to know why they did it. That's the impression I got from the 1960-1970 team.
The 2002 team was a bunch of scumbags.
About Terry: Yes, and that is why he was stripped of the captain status. Rivaldo wasn't even talked about when he theatically rolled around on the floor, holding his balls, when a ball hit him on the knee, just to get a player sent off. And you people are talking about Brazilian flair? Playing with heart and honour? Puhlease.
The Premiership is a mess right now, but so his the whole world of football, to be honest. Once we introduce the 6+5 rule we'll be sorted. And football simply got better; that's why many people don't like modern football. They don't understand how good defending and positioning works and why players who were dubbed "world beaters" wouldn't be able to walk through an opposite defence anymore.

Serm, we both know that you're right and that there have been many "cool" Brazilians in the history of football.
But the dishonesty and douchebaggery on the football pitch I've seen in recent times makes it very difficult for an English-fighting-spirit-and-direct-play-loving fan like me to acknowledge the Brazilians. Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Cafu & co. were all so disgusting and unfair on the pitch and were still praised, I have lost my complete respect for the football nation Brazil.
Yes, many of the English younglings are fools too, but we could go on and discuss whether that's an educational problem, whether there's too much pressure to succeed in the Premier League for local talent and so on. But on the pitch, the English are still as raw and full of spirit as they were thirty years ago - maybe just a tad bit more playful and not as stiff anymore (alright, apart from Heskey and Carragher). Ok, Spain sucked, but Switzerland got lucky; the match should have ended 0-0
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The match should have been 2-0 for switserland..lol They almost made 2-0 I mean really close.
I had a warm feeling inside when Spain lost. Chile was amazing too. Now I hope South Africa Uruguay is cool. Lotta goals. Some red cards..LOL Some good shit. Today was good so far.
That's some good shit! | |

Chile-1 Honduras-0
Honduras played horrible. They barely had any time with the ball. It was all Chile.
Now a question to those of you who understand the sport...
...why is it (I was told) that the loss by Spain will be BAD for Chile??? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I dunno but the game switserland chile will be important. Group H will be tight. Very crazy group now with these results. That's some good shit!

Cuz now Spain MUST win the two remaining matches, and must score a lot of goals, in order to secure the second position (cuz Chile, Switzerland and Spain all could finish with 6 points); in other words, Spain needs to thrash both Chile and Honduras, so... bull rage mode I guess

Spain will qualify easily, they were very unlucky today..."i thought Alonso had broke the crossbar with that shot"

[Edited 6/16/10 6:34am] fair play dave I think I know where you are coming from. I think general arseholery is football's problem to be honest some nations are worse than others though. England and Scotland (i'm a Celtic fan) have their share of players who fly close to the wind when it comes to fair play. I think you are right about the pressure etc and it comes from a win at all costs mentality. Some of the fun has left the game. Too much emphasis on speed and strength. Brazil are an excellent example of this. They've not been 'Brazil' since before you or I were born (1982) i think what I'm trying to say is there are not enough fun players and too much spirit. We need more of a mix “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”
