MacGruber... discuss

First, confession... I've had a crush on Will Forte for years. I think he's adorable. mushy

Anyway, his film MacGruber opens today. I think it's one of the least funny recurring skits I've seen on SNL in recent years, but the reviews of the film have been really quite positive so far. I dunno whether to pass on this one. Any of y'all planning to see it... and willing to admit it?

I'm goin. The SNL movies can be awful, but occasionally, I've had subzero expectations and been pleasantly surprised.

Superstar is awesome. The Ladies Man is infinitely quotable. Night at the Roxbury can elicit a chuckle.

So MacGruber may be better than you think.

I've never laughed at a Macgruber skit, and SNL movies rarely turn out well. But I think Will Forte is kinda hot. The nude pics they've released of him for the movie are funny and surprisingly sexy (except for the photoshopped junk).

I actually find some of the 45 second skits hilarious. But this has all the makings of a train wreck.

Like when they tried to turn those cave man commercials into a weekly TV show.

Ouch. lol

It's been doing OK on Rotten Tomatoes so far. Around 65% fresh, last I checked: http://www.rottentomatoes...macGruber/

If you don't laugh every single time MacGruber gets blown up....then I guess your humor standards are higher than mine.

Agree. Supposedly, the flick's a "hard-R" and much funnier, but that remains to be seen.

I think Kristen Wiig's hot,

but - unless somebody whose opinion I trust tells me it's hilariously funny - I won't be seeing it.

razz it was an okay skit. When they had an advert for it after one of them, I thought the show was still on. It doesn't look that interesting.

Critics are raving about it though, saying it's the funniest action cop movie since Beverly Hills Cop. That's a pretty tall order.

I agree completely.

I was shocked when I found out they were making a film of it.

It's supposed to be lots of bawdy humor and gratuitous nudity (much of it Forte's). Totally adolescent stuff, but if you expect that going in, supposedly they pull it off unusually well here.

I dunno. Toilet humor does little for me, but I'd get a kick out of looking at Forte for 90 minutes. hmmm

"15 seconds, MacGruber!"

"Throw me that paperclip!"

"You got it, MacGruber!"

*BOOM!*

That's the gist of every single skit. One the one hand, it sucks. It's just not funny.

On the other hand, there's so little background or existing "mythology," if you will, so they have absolute freedom to turn it into anything they want. Maybe there's a funny story there. If the writers and other creative folks actually did that, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Exactly. In fact, that description was funnier than any MacGruber skit I've ever seen.
