are you doing weights also? light weights help a lot. supposedly if you do them before cardio it will also help your metabolism.
doing intervals with your cardio helps too and of course protein and veggies

Causes your body to always burn calories. For you and going to the gym! They say do something 20 times in a row you can make it habit. Good luck!!! good luck! I definitely need to get my own ass back to the gym.
funny thing is I only lose weight if I don't eat much. or if I do hard labor for 4 hours a day.

I've spent more than half my life in the gym and the main trick for me, after all these years, is to have clear daily goals before starting a workout/diet routine. Know what you're cardio time will be. You did 45 min the last time. Let's go in with the idea of 50 min this time around. What body parts are you working out? Plan it out. Don't just wing it when you're there. Know where all the equipment is. During the workout focus is essential. I use working out as a meditation discipline too. Be aware of every movement, every pain, every breath. Time will fly by. Prepare your ipod playlists to coordinate with the length of the workout. High energy music is strangely effective to the psyche. While at the gym, I keep the headset on and my cap low as to avoid all distractions. I can't stand idle chit-chat. I lose my mojo. I've also suggested to friends in the past to carry a picture in their wallet, phone, wherever, of the body you want, for motivational purposes. Maybe an old picture of yourself or something from a magazine. Look at it on your way to the gym and before you hit the floor. Finally, take it one day at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself with phrases like, "I'm working out hard for the next month," etc. etc. It may seem daunting. I like your approach so far. "7th day at the gym I joined," tells me your looking back at your completed efforts instead of overwhelming yourself with the future. But keep in the back of your mind that ultimately, it needs to be a lifestyle lifetime change. My life basically is meditation, work, gym, read/study, friends and family. All equally important. I eat around six small meals a day. And depending on when you're working out eat your favorite rich foods before the workout, which you can burn off, and save the "diet," for after the workout or before you go to bed. Hope this helps! Ex-Moderator | I lost 50 pounds last year and have kept it off for 6 months.
I did it by scrupulously tracking everything I ate (calories as well as nutritional content) and how many calories I burned. Losing weight really is a simple math equation; burn more than you take in and you lose. There are lots of free sites available to help you do all of that, determine your basic metabolic rate and about how much you should be consuming as well as easily track what you eat and burn each day. I'm just starting back and plan to lose another 20 over the coming months. I've signed up for a 5k in July and started training again this week. I plan to join a new yoga studio next week. That'll keep me busy at least 5 days a week - now I just have to get my calories back in check and I'll be losing again in no time. |

Congratulations Isatiable3
I too have recently gone back to the gym, been going at it for about a month now. Did not see much change at first, so about a week ago I decided to change up my diet as well. I only have lean meats, veggies, limited on the fruit and if I'm having bread, rice or pasta its all whole grain and the calories I take in are all limited, I do this by keeping a food diary to keep track. I only drink water, black iced tea and coffee in the morning. My carbs I try and have before my workouts which are in the evening then my dinner is lean meat and veggies Also, only good fats like, olive oil, nuts and avacados. I workout for 45 minutes on the elliptical and bike machines. Like TheResistor says, try and beat what you did the last time in the gym, I try to go further in distance and make the resistance higher. I do two different programs on the elliptical, weight loss and manual, I'll do one, one day and then the other next, this way the body doesn't get used to doing the same thing I have good playlist on the ipod for my workouts, I try and go to the beat of those fast songs so that I don't slow down on the machine Good luck to you Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

If your main objective is to lose weight, don't worry about the weights so much. Maybe a couple times a week just to tone a bit. Concentrate on diet and cardio. Eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, concentrating on lean protein and complex carbs (include fruits and veggies). Drink lots of water (at least 1/2 gallon a day). And above all, keep yourself motivated! Always keep in mind your goal and that sexy body you want.

WAY TO GO
The 1st couple of weeks gonna be a drag, your whole body will be invaded with muscle cramps and you won't have the temper to deal with ANY outside foolishness but after that, believe me, its gonna be HEAVEN thee BEST stress reliever(after sex) to me is def working out. My 1st suggestion to you though, seek assistance, don't worry about nagging the trainers(its their job) I've seen MANY trainees lose alot of time and energy on poor execution,,,every detail is very essential to your workout(despite what you may think). Its not about how much resistance or how many kilos/pounds you can lift, its HOW you execute the exercise. My 2nd suggestion, ONE HOUR of work-out is enough I know we all feel like we need more than that to accomplish our ideal weight, but overworking is not always positive and most importantly, it may affect your moral eventually,,,so, if you're consistent with your work-out routine, stick with one hour. My 3rd suggestion, exercise routine is NEVER an option. Try as much as you can to do different exercises for each day of the week, here's an example(you don't have to follow it, I'm just giving you an idea of what I mean) 1. Cardio 30 min/biceps & chest 30 min 2. Cardio 40 min/abs training 20 min. 3. Cardio 30 min/triceps & shoulders 30. 4. Cardio 40 min/abs training 20 min. 5. Cardio 30 min/legs & back 30. 6. Cardio 40 min/abs training 20. 7. Cardio one hour. It doesn't necessarily have to be in that order, because I always switch it up. As long as you let the cardio your main exercise, because its the MOST important one and it targets your whole body muscles. My 4rth suggestion, ALWAYS do stretch training after your work out, it will give you flexibility and more resistance in the long run. As for diet, eat what the hell EVER that you want as long as you don't eat till you're full; hell, if you still feel hungry once you're finished eating,,,then thats the main objective. It worked wonders for me. I've never eaten anything after 6:30 PM, if I felt like I need something like a midnight snack,,a banana will be enough for me. The trick is to go to sleep HUNGRY. My 5th and final suggestion, WATER WATER WATER,,,,always drink water. You'd be surprised how much weight you're gonna lose(and still maintain to look healthy) when a bottled water is always within reach. Hope those suggestions can help. I'm sorry for the long post
