Check this out. I am DEFINITELY ditching Facebook TODAY.
They cannot be trusted. Facebook, the giant social network now under fire over its privacy practices, has been sending personal information to online advertising companies without its users' consent, according to a Harvard Business School professor who filed a letter of complaint with the Federal Trade Commission Thursday.
"Facebook has been telling its users one thing and then doing the opposite," Ben Edelman, an assistant professor at Harvard Business School, told DailyFinance Thursday. "Facebook never told anyone, anywhere, they were going to do this. It's no longer about quality of disclosure, but about whether Facebook is telling the truth in the first place." I swear on any given day, I would have 17 Status updates about people grateful that Jesus allowed them to put Butter on their English Muffin. Through him all is possible. Now I have a strong faith, but people protesting that God was instrumental in providing Frosted Flakes in their bowl is a bit F'n ridiculous!!!!!
And I don't need a 2hr status update on the stupid ass stuff your 1yr old did all day. My baby cried, my baby pooped, my baby spit up....NO SHIT THATS WHAT BABIES DOOOOO . Dont even get me started on those lame ass "Become a Fan" apps. Steve BECAME A FAN of Hugs. MF'er we all like hugs damnit, I just don't feel the need to click a button to show all of my 275 "Friends" that I like em!!!!! Sorry Im done now. missfee said: Yes I am. I've already deleted all my personal info with the exception of my relationship status and my birthday. I also deleted the majority of my pics. My next step is to deactivate it. For some reason I keep holding back on it because I would love to stay in touch with some of classmates from high school, but at the same time, if you are truly my friend, you already have my cell number anyway.
That pretty much is the grounds for why I never created a facebook account to begin with

Besides interacting with friends and family, I've reached people I wouldn't have any other way (for my artwork and latinpopshop), so it would make no sense to leave. I think it sounds amazing for a marketing tool...for personal life (for me), not too sold...but for micromarketing in 2010...freackin' brilliant.

No, because I only use it to talk to my close knit friends, it is wonderful for the purpose if you do not friend everyone and their grandmother. I can go on tell my friends a quick update on my day, weekend..share the latest news and feel good about it. No work people on my friends list or people I would not communicate with on a regular basis otherwise.

I'm not sure some of you are getting my point.
It's not whether or not you only have close friends on Facebook, or if you have a phony name as your ID. Facebook knows who you REALLY are, and where you are, and they are selling that information to advertisers WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. No matter whether you have one friend or 1,000; no matter whether you are JohnSmith or John1234, Facebook is selling your ACTUAL PERSONAL INFORMATION without asking you. That is what bothers me, and that's why I'm out like the Wolves in the first.

It's not like facebook is the only company that gathers info on the public (even without permission). I just don't care, track away and sell away.

I just hope they're not giving my email address away. I HATE spam. (my email is not public) Also, I took the year off my birthday because I am concerned with identity theft. Not to mention that facebook status updates can now be used against you in court, people can get fired, and insurance companies have been known to deny claims based on healthy vacationing photos. But that has more to do with what you choose to post, I suppose. I think people need to be clear on what the repercussions may be by posting something on a social networking site.
