In 2001-2003 I had my own radio show. I went two full years, but called it quits in early 2003. Lately, I've been feeling the itch to start it up again, and refocus the format. With new technology like PodBean and BlogTalkRadio, it's quite possible to do a show again, so that's what I'm doing!

This time, instead of all music, I'll be going more in a talk direction. However, I will be exploring new bands and their music, plus covering some rather off-topic topics at times. (Example: I have a Madame lined up for one show to talk about the business of female escorts and the sex industry in general. I also have a Christian singer lined up for another show, who was a childhood friend of mine.) And yes, I'll be doing Prince themed shows, as well as any other singer I love.

Today's debut is only 30 minutes. It's a test broadcast. With the new technology at hand, I wanted to just give it a go and ride the rails, kick the tires a bit, etc. Mom is calling in, so that will prove to be interesting.

I plan on using my old bumpers, station IDs, and intro from my original show. No need to change everything. I want to pick up where I left off.

Cool first show, Ernest. I couldn't hear you all that well, though. The phone callers' audio was much louder than yours. Your mom sounds like a hoot. Either of your other guests one of the Org's finest?

Why is the broadcast quality of BlogTalkRadio so low? I first noticed it when I did bluefish's show, and I notice it's the same with yours.

Do they charge extra for better quality broadcasts or something?

My show will run regularly started next Thursday, (a week from tomorrow), and I'll probably pop in the 9 p.m. slot, and do an hour format.

The show is basically a big conference call. You do have to be a premium member (which is $39/mo or $339/year) to have the Skype capability. I think Chris bought into that, which is why you were able to Skype into the show.

That was a GREAT first show! When you launched into the whole spiel about your mom being senile, I started laughing so hard that I lost my breath! I doubt she'll ever do the show again for free, but I'd be willing to pay to have her on again.

I will definitely be listening every week, and I hope you'll still be able to spare some time to contribute to my show.

I upgraded to the $99 package. $399 is a bit too rich for my wallet. The upgrade has nothing to do with broadcast quality - it basically just gives me a toll-free caller line, Skype integration, and the ability to upload prerecorded and/or edited episodes.

^^ It's just a telephone line, and the mp3s are encoded rather low - 32 bitrate mp3.
