rosie makes everything great. Are you watching Rosie reruns from the '90s? That's awesome that that's how you relax.

So, I hope cborgman doesn't mind my saying this, but I went to the reading tonight and it was incredible. It was so wonderful to see his words come to life. I had read the play beforehand, so I knew how good it was, but it was very powerful to see it rendered vocally this way. I think I seemed dumbfounded, or maybe they all just thought I was an idiot, which is probably true, but the reading really hit home. Good job, Chris!

awww, thank you honey. i couldn't really read the room. i tend to overfocus on tiny flubs and miss the big picture. i will say this much: i was pleased for the most part. i still have some finessing to do, but i am waiting and looking foward to the in depth feedback. if i start finessing now, i'm gonna get overcritical. i am pleased enough that i am really looking foward to "beasts" on sunday. meaghan, wade, and stephen are going to knock it out of the park as danni, kevin, and josh. wade broke my heart as kevin. meaghan and stephen have the upper hand because those parts were written for them in "beasts" [Edited 5/19/10 22:40pm] Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

god, now i am crazy excited for "beasts"
a DJ friend sent over a rough cut remix of "hyperballad" that incorporates the way i am ending the show with the death of a much beloved character. it is fucking SAD in a beautifully understated way.... which stupid youtube wont let me post. well, heard back from the likely director who had some excellent constructive criticism. just have to tweak and finetune some more in the dialogue, mostly just getting rid of redundancies and overexplanation. the characters and story seem to be working very well. me too. i tend to overfocus on problems and ignore the good things. looking at the feedback, i think i am overworrying. response to kevin was VERY strong. this REALLY makes me happy in a selfish way as kevin is the character based on me. ben is a bit like me, but he's the equivilant of one of those juice "cocktails"... about 30% juice and 70% high fructose corn syrup. strong to noel, strong to danni and jeff in their underwritten roles. weaker to anna and ben, who both need finetuning, but that's not surprising as they are also the two most difficult roles. it's mostly a question of finetuning the details in the non-linear story telling and in the dialogue that plays differently the second time you see/hear it and know what is going on, which i also anticipated. it's freaking hard to write dialogue that plays two or more ways with different meanings, depending on how much of the story you already know. really really REALLY looking foward to hearing "beasts of suburbia" sunday, as that play focuses on kevin and danni. those two actors are going to KILL IT. How exciting!!! beasts is also (in my mind) a better script, which helps. that somewhat comes from from having built on the foundation that is "gaging" and having written the characters for almost 3 years now, and somewhat by choice, as ben's writing skills will grow as he grows as a person and in age throughout the five plays. but a lot of it comes from not having to write it non-linear. being able to move from points a through z without jumping back and forth makes writing sooooo much easier. i dread that fifth and final play, as it will be non-linear again, bookending the cycle. that play is going to be a CHALLENGE to write on sooo many levels: the pressure of ending it all right, providing an ending to all these characters, writing the secondary lead to be played by a 9 year old, blancing every detail from the first 4 plays... but YAY! I can't help but think, though, that it won't be the case here in the slightest! You so see the big pictures and you're so creative it's not even funny.
