I still do, but I'm so jaded now birds are very fragile, so don't get upset if birdie doesn't make it, you are very sweet to try and help! Not seagulls... as a kid I brought one home and we kept that bitch for a lonnngggg time. You would think I've learn my lesson after that.

good luck...do some reserch on what to feed it etc... It can fly, but some how its fine resting in a basket of fresh grass, its just snuggled up and every now and then it peeks up and looks around and goes back to sleep. I got this from a website dedicated for starling rehabilitation... I followed a few steps. I fed it a bit of dogfood and egg mixture, no water as recommended. It didn't seem interested. No cage, its a baby so it needs to be in a container at 75degrees Its on the ground because its learning to fly, so I'll bring it back tomorrow in hopes that the parents will find it and continue to encourage it to fly. It flew a bit in my home but it isn't strong enough for full flight it seems It is normal for a fledgling to be on the ground for a few days in order for it to fly, but there are huge rats and hawks here... tomorrow birdie gets another shot at flight. I'll set her on the ground where I found it. [Edited 5/18/10 21:35pm]

Take it to a wild life rescue or animal shelter.
I have sparrows that come and nest every year in a vent above my back door. One time a baby sparrow had fallen out of the nest and it landed in the window well. Luckily it was unharmed. It was naked with fine fuzz feathers here and there. I got a pair of rubber gloves, picked it up and put it in a shoe box. I had my neighbours brother climb up and put the baby sparrow back in the nest with its brothers and sisters (there were 4 in the nest). Mommy and daddy sparrow do a U turn when they see me sitting on the step. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! why don't you google up bird help or something? I am... weirdly enough, many folks here seem to be very knowledgeable, so why not try several avenues. Dig? Agreed. The site is large enough and the general discussion forum diverse enough that we have a few people here who are knowledgeable about wildlife and animal care. I'm clearly not one of them but there are some orgers who are.

^^^ I am glad it seemed OK... I guess I needed to see some good happen after the shit I went through this past week. A silver lining in my cloud. Life is sweet that way.

Did you ever have a day where you just needed a smile? I had a week like that, (dealing with selfish, soul sucking people ) and I am sorta glad I was able to break from people's crap and witness something sweet. My kids were happy about that baby bird, even the older one was smiling. It just felt nice. I guess God knew I needed a little lift myself.

But I hear ya, very nice. I exp something like that when I went outside a while ago, was sitting near the water and suddenly ducks coots and seagels suddenly came together. Now usually coots won't go near ducks at all but for a brief moment they did. I thought it was magic.

Me too. I raised a lot of orphan chicks and then released them. mealworms, caterpillars and the like should keep it ticking over.
