Poor Cows....

I was on my way home from work tonight and this truck of cows was in the lane next to me on the highway.

Let me preface this by saying -- I'm a proud meat eater. For years,
I ordered the Penny Club at Mr. Goodcents, and I love a good medium
rare steak.

However, when I saw their little faces looking out from the truck, it
literally made my heart heavy. I never use to understand people who said,
"I can't eat _____ because it is an animal." However, tonight I got it.
I just keep seeing those little faces, not knowing they are probably be
driven somewhere to be slaughtered without mercy. I think of those faces
and it reminded me of my dog who was waiting for me at home. Not to go all
Pocahontas on ya'll, but these cows are living creatures.

I'm not saying I'm going to never eat meat again. I'm not saying
I hope other's stop eating meat. I'm saying, I felt sorry for
those cows I drove by tonight, and it will probably be awhile before
I can look at steak, or any other cow-meat product quite the same.

Poor babies.

Sorry if this seems random... had to vent. I tried to shake
thinking about these cows but couldn't. Thanks for reading.

Thoughts?

They're just too tasty. If they weren't meant to be eaten, they wouldn't have been made of meat. Seriously, I can see how some people feel bad about eating meat, but I ain't one of 'em. But, that doesn't mean I want to go out to the pasture and pick out the cow or other animal I want slaughtered either.

Exactly. We're top of the food chain. It sucks for the cow, but I don't care. Just get in my belly.

I am a meat eater as well, and those awful practices in the beef industry is from the high demand that comes from companies like McDonald's, Burger King. etc.
So I am on a life-long boycott and I will not help the meat industry keep us sick and abuse the workers that process the beef and abuse the cows that are kept in deplorable conditions.

It all starts with a fast food burger. Those burgers create demand, at high volumes and meat farmers cut corners to produce and grow cows cheaply as possible. These corners that are cut poison our food supply and keep our cows sick. The workers that process the meat aren't paid well and abused, most are illegals. We need to stop eating fast foods.
I enjoy a good steak, and a glass of milk, but I prefer to eat of a cow that's lived a healthy life and feed grass, not corn.

This way we grow less corn, and make it a better life, for our bodies the cows our children and the South American farmers that have been displaced because American farmers are growing what those Latinos used to grow, and now the are forced to immigrate or grow drugs to keep their land.

Its a deeper problem, and the meat industry fueled by big business knows it.

Fucking McDonalds Burger King and any other large fast food chain, and poultry too. We need to stop supporting this shit.

thumbs up!

Farmers feed cows corn because it's cheap, not because it's good for them. Cows evolved to eat grass, not corn, not soy, and not reprocessed scraps of dead animals that they are fed sometimes.

My two sons can't stand the taste of burgers, (not fast-food, not home-cooked...nada) and my daughter only eats them occasionally, and only with bacon-&-cheese (we rarely let her).

You own a meat eating pet and the treatment of cattle that get slaughtered in that industry is even worse (it's still permissible to feed them fecal matter if the meat is going to cat/dog food).

This is one of the reasons why when I go full vegan again, I will abstain from owning meat eating animals in the future. I understand carnivores are carnivores, but we're breeding them specifically for the purposes of companionship and then justifying the slaughter of other animals for these manmade breeds. I say end the cycle and don't adopt them at all.

I really need a kitchen again. lol
Contrary to popular beliefs going vegan is NOT that limiting in your food selections. It's all about how you prepare food.
I mean, steak would be rather disgusting if you just ate it raw or you steamed it instead of roasting it. Same with vegetable, grains, nuts, etc--it's all about how you prepare it. The west simply doesn't do a good job at preparing veggies or thinking of veggies as the main dish.
