My oldest sister and I just had this very same conversation half an hour ago. I will never, ever understand how some people can claim to love God and then turn around and do and say some of the most hateful, hate-filled stuff in the world. Then, they want to turn around and use God as a get out of hell free card.

I love you bluesy and you will find the right place for you. biggrin

I know the feeling, but all churches aren't the same. Some, but very very few have sincere people there who are positive and uplifting. Most churches have people who are judgemental and hypocritical. Just leave that one and find another one. hug

The guest minister at my church said something very interesting:

"Religious people are too busy trying not to go to hell, but the spiritual people are the ones who have already been to hell, and are living to tell their testimony to someone else to help them".

I thought that was a powerful message. I find that most religious people love to hide their past like they are so perfect and ready to bewilder and shame the next person for their faults. I left the church my family attends because there was too much "religion" and not enough "spirituality". So I found a church that had just what I was looking for and I'm very happy that I made that move. And believe it or not, instead of supporting me on my decision, my family was upset with me for "abandoning" their church (no matter how awful it was) but at the end of the day, you have to do what's best for you and not care about what other people think.

A whole bunch of people hide their dirt behind a veil of sanctimony and false self righteousness. Without exception, the extremely religious/fundamentalist people that I've met are all covertly hateful and intolerant while pretending to be all sweetness and light.

I was also raised in church and still attend from time to time. Luckily I had the benefit of encountering some authentically spiritual people in my life who helped me to gain a lot of insight into "churchianity mentality" and become more centered in the spirit.
