'Pirates Of The Caribbean 4' To Shoot In 3-D

May 20, 2010

Walt Disney Pictures will present the journey of Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" in a more realistic picture. The studio has just confirmed that the film will be shot in 3-D, or Disney Digital 3-D as the studio calls it.

This decision ends a long debated issue of whether to shoot the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film in 3-D or to convert it into 3-D film in post production. Several films converted into 3-D after shot using non 3-D cameras included "Clash of the Titans" and upcoming "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" movies.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" will see Jack Sparrow on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth. Johnny Depp will reprise his role as the eccentric pirate, while Sam Claflin has been tapped to play a new key role of Philip, a youthful missionary.

Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane additionally join the cast as the female lead and the movie villain, respectively.

Rob Marshall is on board to direct this upcoming film from the action adventure film franchise with the script written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, while Jerry Bruckheimer will produce it.

Shooting will be kicked off this summer in Hawaii for May 20, 2011 release.

Oh dear, not another 3-D movie. I really don't see the point. Avatar sucked too. "Up" was alright but not worth the higher ticket price just for 3-D.

Ok, here come the Avatar defenders, bring it on! bitchfight

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer a story well told rather than special effects. In my opinion, the audience are treated as morons. Which they kind of are since they are ready to pay 5 dollars/euros extra for "an ultimate experience" which does not exist. That means the marketing has really paid off. Besides, those glasses are really uncomfortable too. I would love to see Alice in Wonderland but I probably won't since Tim Burton got lured in to making 3-D film too. Damn shame.

I thought Newsweek wrote about 3-D beautifully in this article, check it out. I agree 100%.
