WHOA...DID ELIZABETH HASSLEBACK REALLY SAY THAT???

One of the reasons I no longer watch The View (aside from lack of time) is because of Miss Prissy Knowitall Hasselback. While I try see the logic in her often hard nosed conservative stance, this is too backwards and archaic for me. We're still attributing violence against women based on how they dress?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck: stiletto in mouth

http://www.miamiherald.co...letto.html
It's one thing to start a controversy, quite another to hurt someone's feelings, as Elisabeth Hasselbeck learned the hard way.

Dancing with the Stars contestant Erin Andrews was bombasted Tuesday by The View cohost, who said the ESPN sportscaster's skimpy wardrobe choices led to her being stalked. (Andrews was filmed in the nude through a hotel peephole.)

To paraphrase, Hasselbeck (in a chest- and arm-baring sundress) yapped that if the stalker had waited a few weeks and just seen Erin on the show, he wouldn't be in jail right now.

Andrews, who also received death threats from another stalker, responded with: ``I'm disappointed she went there.''

In true damage-control form, Elisabeth tearfully apologized on the ABC show Wednesday, telling viewers ``reckless words pierce someone's heart like a sword.''

“For the past three weeks, she's been wearing next to nothing. In light of what happened, and as illegal and as inexcusable as it was for that horrific guy to go in and try to peep on her in her hotel room,” Hasselbeck said. “I mean, in some way if I’m him, I’m like, ‘Man! I just could’ve waited 12 weeks and seen this — a little bit less — without the prison time!’"

I watch "The View" just about everyday. I don't like Elizabeth OR Sherri. rolleyes

Yep. She did say it. She went on and on about how someone who was filmed in the nude shouldn't want to then dance in the nude.
Gabi Sidibe was on, and she said that the difference is that "Dancing" is paying her to show her body. That guy didn't pay for a look.
I don't agree with that, but I think she was trying to lighten up the tension that was building as they tried to explain to Elizabeth that one thing has nothing to do with the other.

I've actually been deleting shows from my DVR lately- I've been busy and "The View" isn't priority.

not exactly.

she said maybe the skimpy costumes weren't a great idea considering what happened.

Yeah, and I don't remember who- but one of them pointed out her "bare" shoulders.

Elizabeth is a whiny pain in the ass. hmph!

hmmm I don't think the outfits are all that skimpy in that it's pretty typical for that type of dancing. Ice skaters wear far less. I still don't understand why it should make a difference what she was wearing. Women in burkas get assaulted for christmassakes. Erin has a pretty face and a vagina. One or both are enough to attract some crazed fool.

granted i am no elizabeth fan... i actually take a few jabs at her in one of my scripts.

but, the gossip media is trying to build a fire, as they do anytime you have two famous women. gossip sites love those cat fight stories, as does the public.

she made a call to this erin woman and apologized to her directly, and then followed it up with a national apology.

the important thing to remember is she didn't say the costumes (and granted, they arent really skimpy) caused the assualt. that is the invented spin on this.

contrived by gossip media? yea. blown far out of proportion to the point of contrivance.

I think the comment something like, "You're wearing less than she was right now". I believe it was Joy, which, ya know... rolleyes

But isn't she implying that the dude is only in jail for seeing something through a peep hole that he could have seen on TV with everyone else? That's still a jab at Erin and her choice of wardrobe. It's still putting the female at a disadvantage and suggesting that women by virtue of their dress attract violence or increase the potential for violence. I use the word violence because Erin's stalker also sent her death threats. Surely Liz had to know that her comments would invoke a negative reaction.

there are times i like her. most times i am indifferent. when she starts talking politics and pulling out her notes, she drives me nuts.

but every now and again, she has a moment where she proves lovely.

but i do take jabs at her in my script.

Danni: Stay at home mom now?

Josh: Very much so.

Danni: Soccer, PTA, cookies. Oprah? Definitely Oprah.

Josh: The View.

Danni: Oh, God… is she team Hasselbeck?

Josh: Elizabeth is her favorite, yes.

Danni: You’re right. Utterly tedious and mundane. Ugh. I would hate her.

Josh: I imagine you would. I imagine she would hate you too. Especially after tonight.

Danni: Well, you have famous conservative daddy’s name I presume?

Josh: Of course.

Danni: Oh shit.

Josh: What?

Danni: I might have just came on the face of the next George W.

(he laughs)

It isn’t funny. It’s horrifying.

Josh: So, I take it you’re a democrat.

Danni: I’m a bisexual woman with opinions and a mind. Of course I’m a democrat.

Josh: My wife votes republican and she’s a woman with opinions and a mind.

Danni: Of course your wife is republican, she likes Elizabeth fucking Hasselbeck.

not, really no.

that is elizabeth's approximation of a joke. and it was in very bad taste, and i think that comment/joke, more than anything else, is what she apologized for.

she doesn't mean it as a serious implication.

i like joy. i'd take her over sherri or elizabeth or barbara.

whoop's my girl though. i freaking LOVE that woman. i started watching because i love rosie, and when she quit, so did i... until it was announced the whoopster was replacing her. now i love it even more.

actually, a lot of times, you are correct. she is often feigning intelligence where she has none.

but then she does have an intelligent side. she can be really smart on some things, and sometimes can be brought around to reason. whoopi is really good at working her into a smart calm place.

i feel sorry for her sometimes, because whoop, joy, and sherri are all standup comedians, and she is the only table full-timer who isn't. (babs being part time). she tries to be funny, but her jokes usually fall pretty flat.

this is just another example of that. and the gossip media LOVES to pit people on that show against one another, because every one loves a salacious cat fight.

Rosie was my girl. I loved her on The View and I loved her fighting with stupid barbie hasselback, and by fighting I mean trying to engage in intelligent debate with a twit. She got shafted and the show hasn't been the same since. Sherrie is....well fuck her, she sucks.

Whoopi's the reason I watch. highfive
- Ya know, sometimes Joy says things that are mean or inflammatory & calls it humor, so I get tired of her. bored
- Sherri is SUCH a pain in the ass, this thread would be locked before I listed everything she does/wears that irks me. mad
- Barbara: I like it better when she's not there, but I don't dislike her.
- Then there's Elizabeth. She's that girl in HS that I would have NEVER talked to! hmph!

sherrie's okay. she's just clueless on politics for the most part so she kind of gets trampled.

i miss rosie, but whoopi does it better. she has all the same views and stances as rosie did, but brings them much more clamly and less screamy.

i mean, don't get me wrong, i am a rosie psycho... i actually met her for a brief moment at the true colors tour here in nyc. i almost immediatly burst into tears. it was so embarrasing, but as a former foster kid: who has done more for adoption than ro?
