Headphone advice from i-pod users. Hi, having not long bought my first i-pod(a classic). I am looking for a good pair of quality headphones. I just replaced the standard i-pod earphones with a pair of sennheiser cx500's. I am quite dissapointed in the lack of bass these have. I am sick of looking at reviews on Amazon etc, and my local stockists are reluctant to let me 'try before i buy'.
I am willing to consider in-ear earphones or more traditional headphones. Any ideas? What head/earphones do you use for your i-pod? What is the bass like? (i realise this is down to personal taste) How much have you spent on i-pod ear candy? Thanks.

What old iPod do you have? I have three 3rd generation ones. 15 gig, 30 gig, and 40gig. The 30 needs a new harddrive, and they could all stand to have a new battery. I plan on replacing all of them, as it's cheaper than getting a new iPod. I do have a 1 gig iPod mini (1st generation).
I use my 15g in the bathroom. It's on a dock and plugged into the A/C and a small set of speakers. I use the 40g in the car. The 30 doesn't work because I busted the harddrive on it in the gym once.

Are those any good? I like them. They come with different sizes of the ear tips,so you can get one that is comfortable for just you. Sound if great, and mine has the volume control. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

I've owned two pairs of Shure's. They're great for very precise sounds, etc though the base is a bit bland. The problem I have with them is that both earplugs went bad quickly (within less than 2 years time)--the sound remained great, but the plastic freighed and the things fell apart. The toughest pair (and they sound great) have been my Sony earbuds (the white ones) which I've taken tot he gym and jogging for the last 3 years and are still in decent shape.

Mine have held up for a couple years now, but I am pretty careful with them. If I am not using them, they are in the case. Also, I use the apple buds when working out, so the Shures never get much stress. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

I like the marshmellow ones that do it to you in your earhole huh!

if you want headphones for sound rather than fashion, avoid skull candy. they are a fashion headphone and most of the budget goes towards the styling rather than audio components. they are designed to give a cheap bang for the buck in the bass as most buyers will listen to hip hop or dance music, but it means the mid range is lacking and you get an overall muddy sound
if it's buds that you want specifically, the shure range are accepted to be the best for fidelity, with E2c's being replaced by the E102's as the most popular buds in the budget range. the SCL2's being another similar alternative http://www.amazon.co.uk/S...001GOVTPE/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/S...000UF0BWM/ i have a pair of SE110 buds for my iphone and sony mdr v700 cans for djing http://www.sony.co.uk/pro...mdr-v700dj

Bose always has top quality gear, speakers or headphones.
I tried on a pair of these: http://www.belmonttv.com/...phones.jpg https://www.belmonttv.com...ry_Code=HP and they were INCREDIBLE. Just putting them on with no music, I couldn't believe how much sound it blocked out. Needless to say, the sound quality was unbelievable and they were very comfortable to wear. So it's Bose for me. The sound great to me, but I'm not sure how they compare to all others.

I have a set of Bose earbuds hooked up to my iPod. They sound great, but I cannot seem to determine which ear pieces fit best (comes with 3 sets). The wires are also really thin, so be careful with them. They run about $100. I've heard the Dr. Dre-inspired Monster Beats over-the-ear headphones, and they are f'ing wicked! I think they sound better than the Bose, but I have not heard the Monster Beats in-ear headphones (they're about $150).

I noticed the Dr Dre over-ears, they look and sound fantastic...but a little over budget for me...same with Bose, Nice items but too expensive for me right now.

Hi, can you tell me if there is a decent ammount of bass with these? If I'm not mistaken, you can change the way the bass sounds under the setting on your iPod. it should be under the EQ. [Edited 5/9/10 17:33pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Yes you can, its in the settings, but with the earbuds i am using it makes very little difference.....haha. Maybe i am expecting too much from them(in terms of bass). I've got Sennheiser HD515's which are bass-heavy if you use the EQ boost, otherwise good clarity at either frequency I think. However, they're open-ended headphones so there's some sound leakage which is not ideal for commuting, I stick to the old ipod buds, and the lead is around 2metres long. For under 100$ Sennheiser have 3 or 4 good pairs on the market, think mine'd be around 55ish nowadays.
