So, I need your opinions. And where do I come for some sound advice? The ORG. God, help me.

Before I give you any insight into my situation, let me give you a quick back story. I recently had a "relationship" (I'm going with quotations here because it was a SUPER short period of time), and I ended it because it wasn't going to work -- and might as well nip it in the bud before it gets too intense. Since that, I haven't been eager to rush into anything. I'd rather just take it slow, meet new people, and PARTY. I emphasize the last word in that sentence... PARTY. I've been doing just that since I cut ties with this former guy. I've met alot of awesome people and had some amazing times. And in doing this...

... I met someone.

Let's call him "BOB" for all intensive purposes. BOB was at a house party that I threw a couple weeks ago. He was one of the first people to show up; we have mutual friends. I didn't even notice him at first; all I saw a was a (nice) butt sticking out of my refridgerator getting a beer. When he turned around, it was one of those jaw-dropping moments, where once you realize that you're gawking, you have to force yourself to maintain your composure.
BOB looks like Tom Welling.

Swear to Cher and ON a stack of Prince albums... the boy looks like Tom fucking Welling. Now, anyone who has seen my posts on here, knows that I'm always going on about my infatuation with Welling. So, I died a little at the sight of him. Didn't say much to him throughout the party, (I was actually SHY! That's a first...) but when he was about to leave, I go, "I've been staring at you all night, because you look like someone... Tom Welling! Clark Kent from Smallville..." He looks at me puzzled. I flip open my cell phone to reveal Welling as my wallpaper. -sighs- I realize how creepy that looks SOBER. -facepalm- He laughed.

Fast forward.

Added him on FB, we've done what I suppose could be construded as "innocent flirting". He's supposed to be coming to a house party that I'm having on the 8th. We teased eachother back and forth on who was going to win Pong. He tells me that he's my Superman. I melt like a schoolgirl.

Problem?

I've convinced myself that I have no chance in Hell. There's a tree-full of reasons why I feel like this, but it all seemed to branch and stem from this: When speaking to a friend about it, she replied with, "Black guys and white guys are completely different; I don't think you'd be attractive to a white guy." GEE. THANKS. GREAT ADVICE, ASSHAT. I've never dated a white guy; now, that's not an issue with me... but now I wonder if that would be an issue with him? I know it shouldn't linger in my mind, because it's probably bullshit, but I've never been rejected, and now she put fear in my mind that I may be. I don't know how to cope with that. Another reason stems from his (very recent) ex-girlfriend; we are two TOTALLY different people in every catagory -- looks, interests, social stature... There's other reasons, but in my little noggin, it all boils down to me getting the Reject button.

And this brings me to the ORG. I'm not sure how to handle it. It's not a sex thing. I actually might have... -gags- feelings... for this guy. But I'm not sure how to persue it. Usually, I can handle matters of the heart myself, privately. Yet, this time it feels different... I'm nervous! I'm never nervous!

I don't get that at ALL. I'm white myself and I'd go on a date with you if I had the chance.
Of course I'm not exactly in Connecticut so I don't know what type of girl a typical white guy over there goes for..

But anyway: I'd say go for it! There obviously seems to be some mutual attraction between you and him, so I personally don't see the problem.

I have a somewhat similar situation, in my case a girl who's a friend of a female friend of mine. On my wall on FB every other comment from the past few weeks is from her and the same thing with her wall. I've been telling myself I don't have a chance because she usually goes for the "bad boy" type, but I'll be partying with my friend and this girl on the 15th so I'm just gonna stop thinking negatively about my chances with her, go with the flow and hope for the best.

I advise you to do the same with that guy.

As someone who has dated both black guys and white guys (and brown guys, and just about every race )...

your friend is wrong. They are not completely different.

I'm not too sure I get what the issue is. Just start hanging out with him, if it happens it happens, if not...well, just move on to the next dude.

You need to try the old make-him-jealous-and-get-a-reaction routine. Invite me to your next party and we'll make out like hell together. If BOB gets mad then u know he likes you. If he doesn't then we'll make out like hell some more until you feel better. I'm here for you.

Your friend's comment threw me off balance too.

I think the greater concern is how you seem to be of different worlds, but all those opposites can turn out to be compliments to each other.

It's nice to be attracted to someone with different strengths from the other.

Take it slow, hang out, and don't put your whole heart into it - yet.

If he's nice and gives you good feelings, enjoy it. Just be careful not to make it into something big too fast because you're so excited that he looks like Clark.

You're young and should have fun, but you're also a mama. So that's where the "take it slow" comes in. Have a good time but protect yourself.
