Death At A Funeral
I'm disgusted that only 3 years after the incredibly funny original film (directed by Frank Oz), that fucking Chris Rock & company remade it. What ticks me off more is that Peter Dinklage reprises his role in the remake. Were all other little people actors busy?

They're remaking Mildred Pierce as a miniseries right now.

I love me some Kate Winslet, but she needs to be slapped if she thinks she can fill Joan Crawford's shoulder pads.

I personally think the remake of The Ring and also The Wiz (is this really a remake? It's just another interpretation of the book) are great movies.

It will be interesting to see how the new Nightmare on Elm Street stacks up against the original. Of course, I remember the original to be rather cheesy, but we'll see how they compare.

Well a lot of these movies are retellings or another interpretation. That's how Star Trek was billed, although it does fit in the time line of things in general. Rob Zombie, I think, stated that Halloween was a retelling, not a remake per se. It's a fine line though. Why retell a story everyone already knows and loves?

It's a bit like Alice, and Tin Man on SyFy in retelling Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. I never considered those remakes because there was a lot of differences in them (as well as similarities).
Sometimes things just need to be left alone.

I only clicked on this thread because it had 11 replies and 111 views so I figured I might get some good luck for this weekend's lotteries. The Texas Lottery and Mega Millions are both at or over $200 million.

You can be sure 1 and 11 are going to be on my tickets.

When I first heard a remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street was coming out soon I was raging but having seen the trailer it looks like its keeping quite close to the original.
The original does look kind of dated now but it just adds to the creepiness of the film imo.

To Wong Foo was pretty bad and a blatant American ripoff of Priscilla queen of the desert. The Australian version was thoughtful, realistic and funny.
Although funny, THe Birdcage is a ripoff of the much better French original La Cage aux Folles. The Birdcage is also riddled with stereotypes.
Speaking of remakes, Barbra Streisands a Star is born was a remake of the Judy Garland version from 1954, which was a remake of the 1937 version that was a remake of a 1918 movie with Theda Bara I think.

The Women. How anyone thought Meg Ryan, Annette Bening and Eva Mendes were fitting replacements for Norma Shearer, Rosalind Russell and Joan Crawford is beyond me.

It takes more than 13 months to complete a movie from beginning to end. Drag queens on a road trip doesn't mean it's a rip off either.

The Birdcage is a straight remake, not ripoff, of La Cage Aux Folles. They didn't rip off ideas without crediting it. It was noted as a remake of the 1978 original film. (And if we're playing "rip off", then the film was a rip off of the 1973 French play.)

Side note: To date The Birdcage is the highest grossing LGBT film at the North American Box Office

That's a bit dismissive. The movie is way more than MJ. Even I think he seems amateurish in it at times. It's not Gone With The Wind or something, of course. Some of the best songs are ones without MJ leading the vocal or taking the spotlight.

I own the DVD, and I'm so NOT black.

In regards to the film with Judy Garland. I love it too, but I actually prefer the book over the movie
