sometimes when I see other people's neat printing or writing, I just want to smudge it and make it messy, anyone else like that?

Over the last few years I've written in so many different ways that now I don't know what my natural handwriting is. I change it between 4 or 5 different styles, depending on mood? Not sure.

I did too, and from what I've seen I would tend to agree. I've only ever seen huge swirling signatures come from people who are very very controlling.

I have a very large fancy signiture and in all my 48 years I have never been called controlling, timid yes, but never called controlling even once.
I love the curve of victorian furniture and fell in love with the balconies of New Orleans the minute I saw them. I think it's just my esthetic taste expressed in my cursive, that's all.

My experience must be limited then, because you, my dear, are definitely not controlling. hug

Yeah I know. Sad fact. I graduated high school 2 years ago, and I used to be the only person who wrote in cursive. And I did that only for homework. When I wrote to my fellow students, it was always in printing. They didn't know how to read or write cursive. I learnt printing in kindergarten and cursive in grade 5. I think personal preference to printing has just made cursive writing obsolete. Cursive writing ended with my generation. sad

Oh no, we still teach it. But by Middle School, they start wanting things typed and cursive falls by the wayside.
When I administer the SATs, I have to write the cursive alphabet on the board for the part "verification" part that they have to complete. disbelief

I only learned how to write in cursive once in third grade. That was 11 years ago, and I STILL, to this day, remember how to write that way. You'll be surprised how many people can't write like that. disbelief

wow some of you learned it late. I learned printing in grade 1 though I already knew it, and cursive in grade 2 and 3, but we previewed it again in grade 4 and 5 quickly at the beginning of the year. I think cursive looks better, but I can't snap out of printing.

We were learning to print in kindergarten and learned cursive in second grade. By third grade we were expected to use cursive only. But I'm also old enough that we didn't use computers until high school, and that was only for "keyboarding" (typing) class.

high school?
I learned to type on a typewriter, and didn't use a computer to type papers until I was in grad school- an Apple IIe with 5.5" floppy discs and that paper with the holes... boxed

They never taught me how to write in cursive in school for some reason. I think it was because teachers have to fous on the standardize test, so they skip cursive writing.
I write in print.

I guess I'm fuckin ancient then! Geemoneez! I can distinctly remember being complimented to on my cursive writing in 5th grade! Mr. Hamilton was so impressed he had me go to the black board (remember those?) and write a paragraph to show the class how it was done. You mean to tell me that those big cards aren't being used to show kids how to write and print? When I was in school, there were this big cards that were usually tacked above the black board showing you exactly how to form the letters with little arrows directly each pen stroke. DAYUM! They're obsolete now? eek No wonder we have a world full of ignorance and anuses! mad

Oh, and I learned to type on a TYPEWRITER in high school. Computers weren't even invented then! grandpa Guess that tells you how old my ass is! lol
