It's no big deal; since the arrival of DVD, 90% of movies have been released for the domestic market within 5 or 6 months...
hell, I remember the VHS days , I remember watching Braveheart in theaters in 1995, and then I had to wait until 1996 for a VHS copy...

Home video was going through the roof back in the early 80's and certain films, they just dragged their feet releasing, even to rental.

And the studios would wait for the airlines to get their shot, and HBO. THEN it went to video. These days, the studios are like, fuck it, let's cash in now. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

But I think I'll be getting a copy for my pops. I remember those days, though. Last time a significant amount of time between movie and video release was super long, I was still wearing pigtails and bows in my hair. It's all about the cash-in these days. Mega fans clamor for the commentary, extra scenes, Easter egss, etc. It's almost not a shock to me these days. Which is another reason why I haven't been to the movies in ages. If I wait long enough, I can either get it on bootleg or get it directly for my viewing pleasure.

I remember HBO back in the late 70's early 80's, you had to wait almost 2 years for movies to air.

Imagine how long it must have taken to prepare say 500,000 video tapes for distribution.
A dvd can be burned pretty quickly where video would have had to taken the length of the film plus trailers. BTW is the Bluray of Avatar in 3D? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I tried to love Avatar, but it was just another sci/fi-action movie for me; nothing truly special; I mean, the 3D experience in theaters was cool, but I can live without that film...and all this fuss about the sequels smells like cheap business... [Edited 4/23/10 17:10pm]

http://www.guardian.co.uk...cord/print Avatar sets new DVD sales recordJames Cameron's sci-fi epic sells 6.7m copies on DVD and Blu-ray in four days, becoming the fastest-selling home entertainment release of all time in the US Catherine Shoard and agencies guardian.co.uk, Monday 26 April 2010 12.53 BST Avatar has beaten The Dark Knight to become the fastest-selling home entertainment release of all time in the US. It sold 6.7m copies in four days – 4m on DVD and 2.7m on Blu-ray – racking up $130m (£84.1m) for studio 20th Century Fox. Avatar Production year: 2009 Country: USA Cert (UK): 12A Runtime: 161 mins Directors: James Cameron Cast: CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Zoe Saldana More on this film It was released in the US and Canada on Earth Day, 22 April, to chime with Avatar's environmental theme. In the UK, Avatar made its debut on DVD today, with some stores – including flagship HMVs and Tescos – opening at midnight to serve queueing fans. Meanwhile, a UK fan has been named as the man behind a pioneering online Na'vi-English dictionary. Richard Littauer, a 21-year-old linguistics student from Edinburgh, told the Sun that he published the dictionary after being contacted by Paul Frommer, the US academic who created the language for Cameron's film. Littauer took two months to become fluent in Na'vi and apparently frequently strolls around town in blue makeup and a turquoise loin-cloth. The Sun reports that Littauer remains immune to the abuse he incurs, or the terror he wreaks, quoting a local, Natalie Smith, as saying: "My dogs were really frightened." Scifi/fantasy is my favorite genre so I like to get the official releases because of all the extras. I have all the Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR type goodies on dvd. I always say I"m going to complete my blaxploitation collecton too but I keep procrastinating. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

"i'm down front yo" at the climactic scene It made us feel we were apart of the movie, especially if Tyrone got killed in the first 20 mintues of the film. A lot of folks in the beauty shop versions of those films, weren't ever properly credited, shame.
