Wasn't the Durian fruit the one that Andrew Zimmer from Bizarre Foods (the dude that eats insects & drinks sheeps blood) couldn't eat?
btw: anyone catch last night's episode in Thailand? The dancing shrimp (eaten alive) was mildly horrific & the roasted dung beetles were utterly horrific...but the field rat stir-fry & BBQ made me squirm & grimace like a child. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

sounds like everything is crunch; are they high in fiber and fill you up? I ask this because they might be good keeping my hunger at bay as I try to loose major weight. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

haven't heard of those either; they are very interesting looking on the inside, pretty actually. Can you eat them, or just drink the juice? Are they sweet aswell? They look like they would be related to the coconut and quite crunchy. Actually the texture isn't too far from fresh coconut flesh, though the flavor is nothing like it. The only way I can describe it is somewhere between a pineapple, mango, and peach, but very mild. It's quite a dry feeling fruit--not much juice in it. But addictive once you get into it. I love jackfruit. I think he was asking about mangosteen there. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

YES! And that is exactly the first thing I think of when I think of Durian fruit!

YES! And that is exactly the first thing I think of when I think of Durian fruit! I don't like the flavor of Durian either It's sort of like mixing pinapples, coconut, and honey-do, but the overall result just isn't appealing to me. But people love it. It's actually offered at a lot of Thai and Asian restaurants in the USA (THai Thani at Channelside , Tampa offers it in an icecream for desert).

Oh, and Erin.
If you're ever bored and in Tampa, stop by the "Oceana Market" on just off of Florida avenue. If your in the downtown, head north on Florida Ave, and as soon as you cross under the bridge (hwy 275), it's on your left, wedged between Florida Ave and the other street (forgot the name) across the street from the Police station---you should be familiar with that.... the police station that is. I keed. I keed.

I'm not a big fan either. Not all durian really stink though. There is a milder smelling type. Generally we don't eat it all that often as it's just messy dealing with getting the fruit out (and eating it too). Much easier to grab a mango from the trees next door, wash it and slice it up. I ate a papaya with a spoon for breakfast this morning. Sliced in half and seeds scooped out and refrigerated overnight. I just took it out and scooped the pink, perfectly ripe flesh into my mouth until I reached the skin. That and some toasted Italian bread dripping with salted butter. And hot black coffee. Good breakfast.

Good breakfast. papaya always reminds me of something called "the Beverly Hills" diet that I went on in the late 70's or early 80's. you ate one kind of fruit over and over again. Every so many days it was Papaya and boy did this fruit disgust me after a few weeks. I had to give it up when relatives said my skin color looked like I was very sick. Now 2010 I am still afraid to try papaya again . There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
