falloff falloff

I don't think he was trying to make them forget so much as he realized it would be kind of absurd to pull the same anti-gay rants in his comedy routines as before or to portray himself as an alpha-male hetero lady's man. lol

As far as losing his edge or street cred, it actually happened a bit before the tranny episode though.

He lost his street cred right here:

These two queens should have fucked each other while they had the chance. disbelief

I like the Golden Child boxed

It has some funny moments

"Hey bird, did you see a hare kishna midget floating around in that tree"
"Row, I am going to row his ass, thats right I am going to paddle his ass"

"Golden child" is probably my fav Eddie Murphy movie. Its so stupid but just so much fun to go along with the silliness of it all.

Looking at the bright side, he's openly reflective about it and hopefully he'll figure out a way to reinvent himself.

He lost his edge and cool when he was caught picking up a tranny in the 90's. Had he been straight about the facts people would have been like ... "OK Eddie" but the weak lie he tried to push pissed people off.

Just curious. Is it still a forbidden question to bring up in interviews?

I disagree. When people like Eddie and Seinfeld are doing comedy, this is when they are the most comfortable. Why, because this will always be their first love. Doing 48hrs is not much of a stretch for Eddie, because it was like he was doing comedy rotine and, plus he was not carrying the entire movie as is now. Therefor, he would be more comfortable. It is when he has to carry a movie and try to be an actor, is when the problem starts. He not only has to be funny, but he might also have to show other emotions that a comedian usually does not show. The only person that I feel has been successful at it has been Will Smith.Although not a stand up comedian, per say, Will has mastered the art of being funny on TV and then taking that to the big screen.

I agree that's when they were at their best, but I think that's because of the challenge of being in front of live drunk hecklers. It keeps them on their toes.

Maybe Eddie can't pull off acting as well as Will Smith, but I guarantee every scene Eddie does, a bunch of people say "Great take, Eddie, that's hilarious!" And that makes it hard to truly develop your craft when the feedback is not as honest as a club audience.

Eddies is 51 years old. He needs to stop thinking about "edge" and be greatful for the successes he's had and the money he's made. Besides, does anybody want to hear a 51 year old man crack jokes about boogers, gays, gold diggin' girlfriends and how short everybody in hollywood is?

Eddie is 49. Plus you know he won't be talking about that shit he used to talk about, the edgiest thing he can do is talk about the hypocritical nature of Hollywood, aging, being a single dad and all that stuff. He could talk about entertainment and politics too but I doubt he'll be as edgy when it comes to the entertainers anymore.

Eddie's just maturing (...like the rest of us, lol). In many ways it reminds me of Jerry Lewis. When he first came out? OMG! He was all over the place, definitely considered edgy in his day. He was the ORIGINAL Nutty Professor, lol. But after a certain age, Jerry got all serious and shit, lol. No more edgy, lol. Only serious shit. Bill Murray and Jim Carrey seem to be going that way a bit too, to a lesser degree.

Ah, but Rodney Dangerfield kept it edgy, lol. Don Rickles too, lol. Gotta throw Joan Rivers in there too, lol.
