The problem started when he wanted to do movies that his kids could see. A comedian of his grade should have known better. He should have just stuck to stand up or movies like 48 hours, or do what Chris Rock did. While Chris did do a movie that his kids could see, it was a cartoon. Eddie doing these not funny, full length movies, is what killed his career.

@ bolded part: Didn't John Leguizamo do the same thing? Then again, John didn't blow up the way Eddie did. He also didn't go all "Hollywood" when he became successful because he thinks those types of people are pricks. Maybe that's why John's in his 40s and he hasn't lost "it" yet.
Eddie should definitely take advice from these two guys.

Yes, Eddie should. John is still funny, by the way.

Of course he is! I never said he wasn't. I like watching his youtube clips. I've heard that he has a new one man show, but they haven't uploaded any clips on youtube. sad Do you know if there's a website that has those clips?

Maybe Dailymotion has them. He also had a show on Fox TV, a few years back.

Correction:

An edgy parent is cool. A lame parent trying to be edgy is not. There's a difference.

Ummmm...all parents are lame as far as their children are concerned. What's particularly lame is people who've bred thinking they will ever be edgy again.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience being the child of lame parents.

I know plenty of badasses with kids. Don't generalize.

Here's another one for you - people who go by "meow" are catty, in general.

If I didn't have a job, I would just spend all day collecting the generalizations of the one so fond of saying, "Don't generalize."

I thought that was just gossip and rumors. Maybe he just needed to chill for a while and that´s why he went undercover.

Translation:

"I'm so embarrassed to have done stupid kids movies for more than a decade in a blatant attempt to get America to forget about that "lady" I tried to, um, give a ride home. I'm hoping a director will give me a chance on a real role in a real movie... because I still have the juice and I got a bunch of mouths to feed... I'm just as funny as Charlie. I just need a shot... Please?"

Thats exactly what hes saying. Hes been in some hit movies over the past 15 years or so, of course, but hes been in alot of duds and "family" genre films. He isnt considered cutting edge or hot like he was during the 1980s or maybe even early 90s. He has lost that "cool" factor.

Having said that, I would love for him to do some standup, maybe an HBO special or a film ala Chris Rock... I would love that.

Looking at the bright side, he's openly reflective about it and hopefully he'll figure out a way to reinvent himself.

Co-Sign. Maybe going back to stand up will give him his edge. I also think getting as far away from the Disney Corporation could help also.

He lost his edge in the early 90s. In the 80s he was streetwise, slick and funny, he would have me in stitches then with his stand up and unforgettable roles as Billy Ray Valentine, Reggie Hammond and Axel Foley.
His early 90s movies were slipping with Distinguished gentleman and Boomerang (Grace Jones stole that one "No man can refuse this pussy"). His last truly great role was in 1990s Another 48 hours with his James Brown routine.
The years since 94 have been tragic. Daddy Day Care, The Klumps, Bowfinger, Meet Dave, all major lamo, no swearing, jive talking, funny characters, its like hes turned into Bill Cosby. Beverley Hills Cop 3 was at least funny in parts. Rating his movies below

Classics (All 5 star)
Beverly Hills Cop 1, Raw, Delirious, Trading Places, 48 Hours

Great (4 stars)
Golden Child, BH Cop 2, Harlem nights, Another 48hrs, Shrek 1, 2, 3,

Good (3 stars)
Boomerang, Dr Doolittle 1, BH 3, Norbitt (Raspushia was funny), Coming to America, Nutty Professor - The Klumps

Fair (2 stars)
Distinguished gentleman, The one with the talking bear, Best Defence, Bowfinger, Doctor Doolittle 2, Nutty Professor, Vampire in Brooklyn

Poor ( 1 star)
The rest

What the fuck (0 stars)
Meet Dave - The worst movie ever made

He lost his edge when started trying to play 20 different roles in one movie

Honestly though... could you compare Dave Chappelle's filmography to that? Eddie Murphy had a strong career just not an edgy one (the two rarely go hand in hand).

I never mentioned Chapelle, hes funny at times, but swears far too much for my liking, exudes stereotypes worse than Murphy ever did and I am anti anyone who promotes drug usage (Even Marijuana).

My point really meant, is that he had his funniest period over 20 years ago, the brother is a breath away from 50, unless hes Redd Foxx, he should give it up.
And yes Cinnie, those 80s movies were absolute classics, Murphy made have expressed stereotypes with his characters, but they were done so well, and he always came out on top in these movies. He was just a very good comedian too as well as an actor. The only guy to come close is Martin Lawrence as a comedian and Will Smith as an actor (Smith has been on fire since the Fresh Prince of Bel Air)

3 reasons:

Stopped being a comedian in order to be a Hollywood movie star

Blatantly trying to pass himself as a sex symbol...a silly acting sex symbol wearing excessive makeup to attract "the ladies" lol

The family genre crap
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I'm just saying... his edge wasn't everything either. I know we're having fun talking shit about Eddie on this thread but given the choice between Eddie's career and a whole lot of other "edgy" comedians... I know which one I'ma choose.
