M79 grenades from the red shirts at a BTS station is the news today. I think there's one person confirmed dead, last I checked. Army have live rounds, this we do know. A group of people in Silom got into a bottle throwing fight with the red shirts this afternoon too. It's kicking off though. Bangkok Post website has regular updates. This may be a bad night in Bangkok. I've been over on pantip.com hobknobbing to find out what's going down, jousting with my favourite connected royalist. Reds have called for a UN peacekeeping team to step in. I scoffed, but things really don't look good tonight.

Siam, Silom---all the major tourist spots are now financially impacted and I would imagine Krung Thep is losing millions of THB over this.

The fact that the red-shirt leadership is calling on the UN is part political posturing, part theatre, and part realization that their time is running out.

I just had a debate about why they should or shouldn't be let in come election time to keep a check on things and while there's no chance that will happen I still say, at this point, for all the pride hurt, it would be worth a try.
