Why does my bitch have "crusty nipples"??? I was rubbing my 2 1/2yr old chihuahua, Chula, today, and
noticed something peculiar to me...there was dried milk around her nipples...WTF??? Do female dogs normally lactate even though they haven't been mated? Or have i just been rubbing her the right way!? BTW, this is my first female dog, so it's all new to me... I didn't even know that they had regular periods... Will the periods stop when i get her fixed??? Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

i dunno? call a vet? they can advise you over the phone in some cases. like, if it's normal to have crusty nipples in some circumstances they'll tell you.

I've never had a female dog have dried milk around her nipples, maybe her skin is just dry. I would have that checked out though...ask a qualified veterinarian.
Secondly, the periods do stop after they are fixed.
