ARL team stripped of premierships due to deliberate salary cap breaches

Melbourne Storm, WTF?!?! eek

punishment handed down:

Stripped of the 2007 and 2009 NRL premierships
Stripped of the minor premierships of 2006-08
Stripped of all competition points for the 2010 season
Fined $500,000
Will be forced to return $1.1 million in prizemoney (prizemoney to be distributed evenly among the other 15 clubs)
Individual awards by players will continue to be recognised
Neither Manly (2007) nor Parramatta (2009) will assume the premiership titles in their respective years
Salary cap breaches amounted to at least $1.7 million over five years
Salary cap breach around $400,000 in 2009
Salary cap breach projected to be $700,000 in 2010
NRL says the Storm maintained a dual-contract system

this wasnt an accidental breach of the salary cap, it was a deliberate one disbelief

well done NRL for such swiftness in bringing down punishment

other codes..beware!!

They got hit hard - more than the Bulldogs a few years back.

So does this mean the Roosters came second last in 2009???
Big huge Chookie fan here lol

I still think that they'll win games -- they have a big point to prove.

Bulldogs just lost their points for that year and got a fine - Storm are dealt with a heavier blow, a back dated one.

Hope other teams will learn from this and play fare
I don't get AFL - i's confusing, but I love their Shorts wink

Will be very interesting to see how the players motivate themselves for the games. They have nothing to play for except themselves.

The NRL is fucked. 2007 and 2009 seasons were basically a waste of time now. This season will be completely overshadowed. Why would you support league if your team ends up winning and then gets stripped a few years down the track? It's so stupid. I used to watch all the time, now I don't even bother.
