How do I make it...I went to the grocery store a few days and I poked the package and shook it a little bit. Then I put it back. lol What is it made out of?

The real question is what CAN'T you make of it.. biggrin

Look anything like this:

It can also be called soycheese, bean curd. It's a white food product made by coagulating soymilk and then with pressure, "squeezing" excess liquid out.

lol thanks

Hello fellow vegans.

I suggest you get yourself some Black Bean sauce, some rice noodles, beansprouts, broccoli, carrots, onions, snap peas and bell-peppers and make yourself a yummy stirfry.

Mash it well, mix the mashed tofu with fine breadcrumbs, roll teaspoons of the mixture in flour, and fry your little tofu fritters until brown. Serve with pasta and your favorite sauce.

As a Wisconsin girl, I am deeply offended by attempts to pass obvious non-cheese foods off as actual cheese. hmph!

btw tofu can be quite nice if cooked/prepared properly talk to the hand

recipe please biggrin

i don't follow an exact recipe

i always stir fry cubes and add sweet soy soy sauce , mashed red chillies (sambal) , 'hot curry ' (herb mix) and sometimes cumin powder

you can also marinate the cubes in sweet soy sauce , might be easier drool

I made a delicious tofu dish last week, with a coconut-peanut-chile sauce from scratch.

drool

I fried up two pounds of tofu, drowned it in the sweet, spicy, fatty, peanutty sauce, added some veggies for good measure and served it over hot cooked rice.

Between me and two of my daughters we killed it in a day.
It's what you make it.

Wisconsin is known as "America's Dairyland" - and produces more cheese than any other state.

I've never heard of tofu being referred to as soycheese.

THIS is soycheese.

There's also rice based cheese which isn't bad, but nothing beats this:

It's a new product (I think it first came out less than a year ago), and it recently won "Vegan Product of The Year" at I think the biggest awards catered to vegans. I read it in one of the big vegan magazines.

It's absolutely divine. Even if I ate cheese, I would still like this better.

And I know that for sure - because when I was first flirting with the idea of becoming vegan, I tried it (my wife became vegan a few months before I did).So I was able to make the comparison. It's amazing. Think it's made with some sort of root.

My wife makes homemade pizza with it. It stretches and melts just like cheese does.

Here's a photo of a pizza made with Daiya:

Downside is that I think it's only available in the US at the moment.

Here's a list of where you can get it.

I need to check out this daiya cheese. There's a local pizza joint in my neighberhood that switched to all vegan, cruzer pizza, and they use it in all their pizzas.
