My girlfriend was molested by one of her brothers and it has had an effect on her for sure, why she has a hard time with trusting people, she has placed all of that energy into becoming an awesome musician!! As I understand it, this is not the first time Mo'Nique's brother has addressed this. He has done it before, face-to-face and in private. Mo'Nique suggested in a previous interview that his apology, though, wasn't truly a confession of wrong-doings (i.e., it was more "I'm sorry that you were offended" than "I'm sorry for what I did") and that since her twins were born she's decidedly broken communication with her brother.

Maybe Mo'Nique's brother believes this is a way he finally can get her attention again and the best way he can come clean to an entire world that already has been made privy to the situation by Mo'Nique's doing.

I don't discount speculation of opportunism, but that needn't be the only possible motive.
