I always walk through the graveyard right across my street. I love the serene atmosphere there and the beauty of the trees. And there are lots of squirells, too.

I love cemeteries, too. There are few other places where the tenants are so quiet. smile

I have a few

One of my favourites from around 1970, is the Hippy babysitter zonked out on drugs, and she got hungry, found a chicken, popped it in the oven and then ate it. The parents came home and wondered what had happened to their baby, just then they had seen the hippy chomping on the babys left leg and saying "What a tasty drumstick".

There are also the legends of rats and mice being served as chicken in restaurants.

The other great one, is the person who goes to a bar, meets a beautiful person of the opposite sex that brings them a drink, then they remember nothing and wakes up in a bathtub full of ice, with a note next to them saying their kidneys have been removed and when the ice melts they will die, as the wounds havent been stitched up.

The grey man is like a Pele legend of Hawaii, where the goddess of volcanoes (Pele or Hinenui te Po in New Zealand) appears as an beggarly old woman before Mauna Kea erupts and begs villagers for a fish, if they give her one, she tells them to mark their houses with red ochre and they are spared from a volcanic eruption that invaribly takes place in the hours afterwards.

There are also many stories of vanishing hitchhikers, including people driving down the road and picking up pale looking silent people who just point rather than talk and sit in the back seat. They usually notice their clothes are several years out of date, and after a few minutes the driver turns around to break the ice, only to find their mysteriously silent passenger has disappeared.

The Chicago girl legend is also common, usually bright young things that appear lifelike want a lift to a cemetery and get there only to vanish as they go through the gates.

I also watched a programme a few years ago, about a man who met a very beautiful but shy and conservative woman at a dance in the 1980s, and they fell in love and lived together for about 6 months. He found her quite stifling and wondered why she always wore 1940s style clothes. One time after an argument she walked out on him and he watched her go to an old and disused cemetery down the road. She never came back and after a week, he rang the Police worried, and they checked their computer saying no such person with that name existed to them. He decided to go to the last place he saw her and once inside the gates noticed a headstone with the name of his beloved and underneath the dates born 1912 - died 1947.
