Mother's Day taboo Just thought I'd break the taboo to say that Mother's Day is a very unhappy day for me. Every year when it comes around I feel stress and it dredges up difficult feelings. I'll be glad when it's over.
dredges not drudges up edit...or maybe I was getting it confused with grudge? [Edited 5/9/10 17:26pm]

I'm not all excited about the day either...

Honestly, I'm not thrilled about it, either.
Don't get me wrong- I just got off the phone with my Mom after an hour and a half. Both my Grandmothers are alive- one is 93, the other 96. I am thankful for all 3 of them. I've struggled with not being able to have children of my own for the past few years. [Edited 5/9/10 16:35pm] "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I thank the Lord for my mom every day I wake up! The best thing about Mother's Day though is she can RELAX.

Don't get me wrong, I love my mother and Nana, but to me Mother's Day is a lot like Thanksgiving in some ways. If you need to set aside a specific day to be thankful, how thankful are you really? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I think you found your way onto the wrong thread. Well I can kinda get where this thread was going but I wanted to add a positive buzz to it. Sorry if otherwise. [Edited 5/9/10 17:25pm]

[Edited 5/9/10 17:25pm] I wouldn't mind except there are very very few spaces to diss Mother's Day, so this endangered environment must be preserved!

Oddly enough today I was watching Chris Rock's "Bigger and Blacker" special and he was going off on how mothers are appreciated yet daddies aren't.

I remember the first time I actually had a job/money for mother's day. I was 18 and prior to this, at most she got a card because I didn't have money to do much, or a license to go anywhere really. I saved up a little bit and was like "Mom, I want to take you out to lunch and maybe a movie." was all excited to actually be able to do something for her...and she shot me down. It was her day so who am I to complain, but damn. She didn't even have a reason aside from not feeling like it.
I guess in the end it set a precedent for Mothher's Days to come, I can be cheap without guilt.

[Edited 5/9/10 16:35pm] The past few years I have dreaded the day because I am living 5000 miles away from my Mom. This year I celebrated it for the first time in March (UK Mother's Day). It was still weird and even weirder yesterday because I still feel like that day is for MY Mom but I miss her and wish I could have done more for HER day.
